In The Silence

The time when there is nothing there to make a single sound; when you are at peace, totally relaxed – that is when I’ll come to you. You’ll not see me but you will know that I am there. Maybe you’ll sense it, or perhaps I’ll cause a slight tremble in the air, creating a vague shimmer effect.

But there I will be, invisibly beside you. I’m going to reach out my arms to embrace you. Of course, they are kind of ghostly so you may not feel a thing. But concentrate and you will know that they are there, wanting nothing more than a moment’s closeness, some fleeting contact.

And just like a gentle draught, I’ll breathe you in. For a moment you will be a part of me, but you probably won’t even notice. I’ll linger for a few moments, cherishing every second of our nearness but I cannot stay long. The effort of travelling across all those miles is hard and to remain is even harder. But so, so worth it!

But too soon I’ll have to go. I’ll feel myself being pulled away. One last touch and I am gone, my return journey so much quicker as I am now being propelled by natural forces, not fighting against them.

And back in my bed, I will turn over and sleep, exhausted from the energy I’ve just spent on travelling. Maybe I’ll sleep in, or pay with exhaustion. Was it worth it, those few seconds? Oh, you bet!
