After School Adventure. Ron and his sister Melissa rarely walked home from school together, but today was different. Today was Melissa's birthday, and Ron was under strict orders from their parents to keep Melissa busy for a couple of hours until everything was prepared for her surprise birthday party. "So, how does it feel being eleven?" Ron asked awkwardly to break the silence. "Same." Melissa responded. "I remember being eleven." Ron stated. "It was just last year dumb dumb." Melissa shot back. Both of them began laughing. "So why are you walking me home again?" Melissa asked. "I mean, don't you usually walk with your friends?" She continued saying. "Yea well, it's your birthday, so I thought I'd walk you home. Consider this your present." Ron said jokingly. "Gee, thanks cheapskate." Melissa said. The two shared another laugh together. Melissa was about to speak again when suddenly, something caught her attention. "Oh snap, look at that!" She said with amazement. Ron looked in the direction she was pointing and saw... A fully grown bald eagle tugging on a stroller with a Woman trying to fend it off. "Wow! Look at the size of that thing! it's gigantic!." Ron said. Genuinely surprised, the two continued steering at what was going on. Finally, Melissa broke their silence. "We have to do something!" She said urgently. "Grab that stick!" Ron said, matching her urgency. Ron looked around for a short moment hoping to find something he could use. He spotted a couple of discarded half filled plastic bottles laying on the ground. "Better than nothing." He blurted. He took Melissa by the arm and the pair rushed into battle. With it's powerful talons gripped on the handle of the stroller, the massive bird pulled with uncanny strength in it's effort to wrestle the stroller away from the Woman. The Woman however, fueled by desperation, seem to grow stronger as her grip on the stroller tightened. Melissa was first to arrive; she was the faster of the two. The eagle, unaware of Melissa's presence, flapped it's massive wings with great effort. Melissa struck, swinging the stick like a professional Major leaguer. The eagle, took the blow from the stick flush on the head. The blow made a crackling sound that made the Woman jump back in surprise which almost made her let go. The eagle made an awkward loud sound, and it's grip loosened a bit. It made several more awkwardly loud sounding noises, but after a few short moments, it regained it's composure and kept pulling. With a small bag daggling from her shoulder, the Woman pulled back. She pulled like all life on Earth depended on it. Ron arrived. He heaved one of the half filled plastic bottles at the bird; hitting it directly on the neck. The birds grip loosened some more, then one of it's talons let go. Then Melissa struck, this time with all the strength humanly possible for an eleven year old girl; hitting the giant bird directly in the spot Ron hit it split seconds earlier. Melissa's blow turned out to be too much for the giant bird. Unwilling to take anymore punishment, the gigantic bird of prey let go and flew away. "Oh my goodness!" The Woman said frantically. "Oh my... you two are a couple of heros!" She continued saying. "Are you alright?" Ron asked. "Yes,.. yes I am,.. just a little shaken up." The Woman replied. "I can't believe your baby slept through all of that." Melissa said. As if it just dawned on her, the Woman grabbed the child in haste, and began searching for injuries. The child suddenly burst out with a cry. Ron and Melissa looked at each other, both holding a goofy smirk on their faces, but both held off from laughing. The Woman cradled the baby in her arms. "I'm sorry baby, sorry, sorry, sorry. Mommy didn't mean to frighten you." "You two are angels do you know that. Thank you, thank you, thank you." The Woman said. "Is your baby ok?" Melissa asked. "Yes, she seems to be ok." The Woman answered. "That was the craziest thing I've ever seen." Ron stated. "It's the scariest thing I've ever experienced." The Woman replied. "I thought those things only attacked rodents!" The Woman said. "I've never heard of an eagle attacking people. My goodness! And did you see you the size of that thing, it looked prehistoric." The Woman finished saying. "It's rare, it almost never happens, but I've seen YouTube videos of when it did, but i've never seen one that big" Ron replied. "Dang it!" Ron shouted. "What? What's wrong?" The Woman asked. "I should've turned my camera phone on, that would've made an awesome video! It definitely would've went viral." Ron said. Melissa and the Woman looked at each other and then looked at Ron. Embarrassed, Ron put his head down and whispered, "What? I'm just saying." "I'm Sonia" The Woman blurted out. "And you are?" Sonia asked, looking at Melissa. "I'm Melissa, and this is my brother Ron." "Big brother." Ron added sarcastically. Sonia chuckled, and the two followed with a chuckle of their own. "This is my daughter Jacinda." Sonia said. She placed the crying Jacinda back into the stroller and took a bottle of milk out of the bag she had daggling from her shoulders and gave it to her. That calmed her. Sonia then began rumbling through the bag she had tucked in the lower compartment of the stroller and from it, she pulled out a hundred dollar bill. "Here, this is for you two, split it evenly you hear." Sonia instructed. "No ma'am we couldn't. We can't take your money. It wouldn't be right." Melissa stated. "But it's a hundred dollars." Ron whispered to Melissa leaning in her direction. "I'm sorry Ms. Sonia, but my "big brother", Melissa was saying using imaginary quotation marks; "sometimes acts like my little brother. We can't accept your money. We just wanted to do the right thing and help out." "And help you did, you swing a big stick little lady, where'd you learn that? Sonia asked. "Little league baseball. My dad signed me up four years ago." Melissa answered. "And what about you Mr. rocket arm? Do you play baseball to? Sonia asked. "No, I'm just naturally gifted. I don't really like sports, I'm more of a gamer." Ron stated. After a brief chuckle Melissa said, "Yea, in your mind." The three shared a laugh. "Well, thank you, both of you. I really appreciate the help." Sonia said. She reached back into her bag and put the money back. She extended her arms and hugged them both. "Awe, God is good." She said before turning and walking off. Melissa and Ron watched her for a short moment as she walked away. Shortly thereafter they turned and walked off themselves.
