Haven’t got a clue

Ext: London House. Evening. Wide shot of a house on the end of a cul de sac. The downstairs lights are aglow with the warm light from inside the house. The entrance is well lit.

INT: London House: Kitchen. Michael is cutting up onions on the worktop. Sylvia is walking around the kitchen, pulling dishes out of cupboards, and getting drinks out of the fridge, whilst she talks to Susie on her mobile; which she has gripped between her shoulder and her cheek.

Sylvia

Hi Susie is Bridget with you?

Susie

Hi... yes

Sylvia

Are you two ready for this evening?

Susie

Yes Darling. We’re both excited about the dinner! What are you wearing, we don’t what to clash...?

Sylvia

You’ll just have to wait and see, my dears. I’ll see you at eight. Bye for now.

Susie

Bye darling.

Sylvia

Susie said she can’t wait, oh darling, tonight is going to be so much fun!

Michael

I can’t wait to get things rolling! Have you confirmed that Ralph and Bridget are still coming?

Sylvia

I spoke to Ralph earlier, he said that Bridget was out shopping for a new dress. You know what she’s like…?!

Michael

You women and your dresses… Anyway, it sounds like we’ll all be here. Smashing! I just have the hors-d'oeuvres to prepare, then I best start getting ready.

Sylvia

Good idea. I’ll jump in the shower now and shout you when I’m out. Oh darling, I’m so excited!

FADE TO BLACK

EXT: Evening. London home. A car rolls up in the driveway and Susie and Jonathan get out. Noticing the cold winter air; Jonathan takes his jacket off and wraps it around Susie. He puts one arm around her shoulders as they make their way towards the door. The doorbell rings, the door opens.

Sylvia

Hi. Come on in, Bridget and Ralph are already here. Oh, it’s getting cold out!

Silvia hugs the couple as they pass the threshold into the house.

INT: Evening. London home. In the Dining room Michael and Sylvia, Susie and Jonathan, Bridget and Ralph all are seated eating at the dinner table. The room is filled with friendly chatter and banter.

Ralph

So, Michael how's the work been? I hear you have been working away quite a lot lately?!

Michael

Oh yes! Client demands, sales are up, products to check… you know how it is in this business, sometimes it just gets on top of you.

Michael winks at Bridget, who smiles back.

Ralph

Yes, I keep losing Bridget of late, work work work! But she’s back now, I think some “us time” is in order.

Ralph places his hand on top of Bridget’s, she looks down at it with shame and a little disgust. Bridget forces a smile. Ralph raises his glass.

Ralph

A toast: To being back together!

Everyone else raise their glasses. Michael speaks a second after everyone else, and while they all watch their glasses Ching together, he and Bridget keep constant eye contact.

All (Except Michael)

To being back together!

Michael

To being together!

Everyone laughs. Then continue with the chatter and eating.

Fade

INT: Evening. London home. In the Dining room, everyone is sat at the dinner table. Their plates are empty and half empty wine bottles are scattered around the table.

Jonathan

What to do now, then?

Everyone glances around the table, searching for a suggestion.

Sylvia

Why not play a board game?

Michael

Cluedo ...I say “Let's play Cluedo! “

There is a small uproar as everyone agrees.

Ralph

Okay. Let's play.

Sylvia

I’ll get more wine! Bridget; will you clear the table please?

Bridget

Of course.

Susie

I’ll help.

Bridget and Susie gather plates and move to the kitchen. Michael leaves the table and heads upstairs. Jonathan tops up his wine glass, and Ralph sits back in his chair rubbing his belly.

The ladies return to the room and take their seat.

Jonathan

A fine wine Sylvia, but then again you always had good tastes!

Sylvia

You know me Jonathan, I always try to please (flirty smile).

Michael returns to the room, holding the box of Cluedo

Michael

Got it!

CUT

Everyone is seated around the dining table; the game is well under way. The players are looking around the room; watching each other intensively wondering “which person has done the dirty deed”.

Michael looks up from the game been played, scans around the room, all players scribbling on their pads

Michael

ok... who would like to start...who’s killed who and where?

Susie starts her interpretation of the proceedings. She leans back in her chair and starts to reel off her findings.

Susie

I think Col Mustard did it!

Fade out

EXT: Cluedo house. The gardens of the mansion stretch out into the darkness. Mrs Peacock and Prof Plumb are tucked away in a corner of the long and seemingly endless maze of hedges that lead the garden into the night.

Colonel Mustard walks towards the summer house. He stops abruptly when he notices two silhouettes inside the summer house. On closer inspection, he sees his wife: Mrs Peacock, she is talking to Prof plumb. He stands for a while: watching as they speak to each other.

Prof Plumb

Oh, Mrs Peacock, I know how I feel now ...I need to know do you still love me?

Mrs Peacock stares deeply into Prof Plumbs eyes, and smiles. She runs her hands around his face and neck, occasionally playing with his hair; casting her spell over him.

Mrs Peacock

I do my Prof Plumb, I do...

She slowly lowers her head

Mrs Peacock

But what about the Colonel ...I do still care about him.

Prof Plumb

I understand it’s hard for you, but he doesn’t love you like I do! He can’t!

Prof Plum grabs Mrs Peacocks hands and they stand facing each other holding hands and breathing hard. He pulls her hands to his chin, and kisses them.

Prof Plumb

Please, let's go tonight?!

Mrs Peacock

If I do … what will we do for money? He will cut me off from my allowance!

Prof Plumb

I have a large amount saved… I can always teach if needed!

They both embrace and kiss. As they do; Col Mustard stares into the summer house, his face changes from inquisitive and calm; to pure anger. His hands start to form two tight fists whilst he grunts with rage.

Mrs Peacock

Ok. Let's go. I’ll go and pack.

Prof Plumb

I’ll go to the garage and start the car, you get your bags. I’ll see you there in 10 minutes. I love you so much my darling!

They kiss again and separate. Mrs Peacock goes towards the house and Prof Plumb heads towards the garage.

Mrs Peacock enters the garage. She is surprises to see Colonel Mustard stood in the garage next to his car. He speaks through his breath and a fake grin.

Mrs Peacock

You startled me dear (deep breath)

Col Mustard replies in a deep voice that resonates fear in her. He does not look up to make eye to eye contact with Mrs Peacock, but his tones are low and hold a hint of insanity.

Col Mustard

That was not my intention!

Mrs Peacock picks up on the danger looming in the garage.

Mrs Peacock

I’m getting the impression you're not happy to see me.

Col Mustard

You’re spending quite a lot of time with Professor Plumb. We hardly see each other of late!

Col Mustard starts to walk towards his wife; dragging his hand across the workbench, he comes to a sudden stop as he feels the wrench laying there. He picks up the wrench and moves closer to her. Fearing Col Mustard; Mrs Peacock takes and few steps backward.

Mrs Peacock

I am his pupil! We’re studying archaeology... which does take us away a lot…I have to admit. The site we are working on is near Stonehenge. He’ll be here soon, if you’d like to discuss it?!

Col Mustard smashes the driver’s side window of the car in the garage, outraged with the offer of a calm discussion, and no doubt being fed more lies from his wife and Prof Plum

Col Mustard

I don’t want to discuss it!

col mustard says speaking in a calm tone, now knowing he has the upper hand, feeling her fear

Mrs Peacock

I say darling, calm down you're scaring me. There's no need for that!

Col Mustard continues forward; his arm begins to rise slowly until at the peak of his lift.

Col Mustard

STOP TALKING!

Suddenly his arm moves with lightning speed towards her head.

Cut to black

INT: The London house.

Michael

Sorry Susie not even close, but a good story

All around the table applaud her effort.

Michael

Your go Ralph! Make it a good one!

Ralph takes the dice, and rolls. Ralph looks around the room, everyone staring at him, waiting for the tale to unfold, he pours another glass of wine.

Ralph

Let's take another look in the garage

Fade to black

INT: Garage scene in the Cluedo house.

Prof Plumb is standing with his back to the Col. The Col stood about 5 feet away from him.

Prof Plum

I’m in love with her... but you already know that, otherwise you wouldn't be here!

Col Mustard

You think she loves you back!? She’s playing a game!

Prof Plumb

She does love me! That’s why we're leaving... tonight! But, I suspect you already knew that, too! I saw you watching us in the gardens!

Anger floods into Mustards face, he feels the wrench on the work table, it’s in his hand; held tight. He nonchalantly drags the wrench across the other tools laid out across the workbench.

Col Mustard

You will not take her from me!

Prof Plum spins around to face Col Mustard. In his right-hand Prof Plum has a large dagger glistening in the poor light of the garage. Mustard lifts his arm high, Speedily Plumb lunges forward and thrust the dagger chest high towards Mustard.

Col Musters hold on the wrench loosens and it falls to the floor.

Fade to back

INT: The London house.

Jonathan

Nice twist Ralph! Was he right Michael?

Michael

No! Just like before... not even close

Michael smirks at Ralph,

Ralph

Ok Mr know it all, who did it

Michael

Let's continue the game and see

Everyone at the table turns to Susie, all eyes on her waiting for her story to unfold. Susie smiles and looks at each of the guests, she takes a deep breath, picks up her glass and takes a sip. Licking her lips on placing the glass back on the table. She is seriously contemplating her move.

Susie

...The chair is occupied by the Rev Green….

Fade to Cluedo study room.

Susie (V.O)

looking at the phone on the table.

INT: Cluedo House Study.

The door opens, Rev Green does not turn to see who it is as he knows who has joined him

Rev Green

I was wondering how long it would take you to appear

A voice from behind him answers in a soft mellow tone

Mrs White

Just in time it seems

Rev Green

Come to repent your sins? ...ask for forgiveness? How much have you taken from the church? 500… 1000? Do you think the church can allow you to get away with this?

Mrs White steps closer to the chair. She stops a few feet away.

Mrs White

No but you can! You know why I had to do it and it’s closer to 3000!

Rev Green

It’s no joke Mrs White! The law must have its day! You have left me with no alternative ...I must do the right thing!

Rev Green moves to pick up the receiver and dials 99. then replaces the receiver. Mrs white moves closer; placing her hands on the Reverends Shoulders.

Rev Green

What do you think the rest of the village would expect of me, and how would they trust me again if I allowed this to go unnoticed?

Mrs White

It is a true shame! You’re so well-liked in the community …. it would be a shame if you had to “leave “

Rev Green

“Leave”? I’m not “leaving”! This is my parish and I am here to stay!

Mrs White remains calm in her reply.

Mrs White

Sorry dear… you’re leaving!

Mrs White's hands slide over the shoulders and grip the rosary bead chain around his neck pulling it hard towards her; forcing the cross closer to the Rev Greens throat.

Fade

INT: The London house.

Bridgett

Susie! That’s awful ... (gives a shudder) how evil...

Ralph

I know not to mess with Suzi, good lord how do you even think of that?

Susie

Ok Michael, how did I do?

Michael

I love the plot ... but not the right answer!

Jonathan

Wow this is turning into a great sleuth game!

Michael

Well Jonathan, your chance to solve the crime!

Michael lifts his glass of wine as if to toast. Jonathan leans back on his chair and cups his hands behind his head; stretching his arms. Then he leans forwards placing his arms on the table.

Jonathan:

The two women; White and Scarlett, are stood in the hallway by the stairs.

Fade

 INT: Cluedo house Hallway.

Mrs White

So Scarlett, what are going to do now?

Scarlett

What do you mean Mummy?

Mrs White

Look I’ve paid you what you wanted now leave it at that!

Scarlett

You shouldn’t hide your past! I’m sorry I disappoint you ...sorry I was born!

Mrs White

You are not a disappointment! I was so young, I had to let you go! I got married had children ...nobody knew ...  look, you’ve got your money, now, leave it!

Scarlett’s reply is snapped back, bitterness seeping out in her words

Scarlett

That’s what you’re good at, isn’t it, leaving things! I had to work my way to this, doing unspeakable things to get what I wanted! I hate you so much!

Mrs White

You think I owe you!? I tried! It was your father who walked out! How was I meant to bring up a child at 16 years old? I did the best thing I could… I gave you to a rich, respectable family… now you want to ruin me?!

Mrs White turns and walks away from Scarlett

Scarlett

You’re turning your back on me again?! Don't you dare walk away from me I’ve not finished!

Mrs White

Yes, you have my dear!

Mrs White continues to walk away. Scarlett grabs the candle stick standing on the lobby table, rushes over to Mrs White and swipes the stick at her head.

Fade

INT: The London house.

Bridgett

Well Jonathan. I must say never saw that coming! Good imagination!

Jonathan

Thank you, Bridget. Too much television I think

Susie

Yes, and those ghastly novels you read!

Everyone at the table starts laughing. When the laughter subsides, Sylvia stands waving the empty bottle.

Sylvia

...Just getting another bottle…

Sylvia leaves the room.

The players are seated finishing the dregs in their glasses. Michael sneaks a look at Bridget who returns the offer, Ralph notices the look.

Ralph

So, when are you next away Michael?

Michael

Next Monday ..six days in Malta.. need to set up the European distribution centre

Ralph

 Bridget won’t be available

Michael

Why? Anything wrong?

Ralph

No, we’re going to Italy for 2 weeks next Tuesday…. late booking… We need the R & R!

Suzie

We went to Verona last winter; the people were fab!

Sylvia re-enters the room and pours herself a drink, the bottle is passed around. Michael interrupts.

Michael

Well back to the game... Sorry old chap, but your guess wasn’t right. Looks like it’s your go, Bridgett...

Bridgett smiles, flips her hair from her face, then straightens up in her chair.

Bridgett

We go back to the garage where a man is waiting

Fade

the garage

INT: Cluedo house. We see Scarlett walking towards the garage, she opens the door and enters slowly. She takes a few more steps into the poorly lit room. She looks around to see if anyone is there, she sees no one, she places the suitcase on the floor. Out of a dark corner a man steps out; he startles Scarlett.

Scarlett

Oh, hello dear

Rev Green

Hello ...were you expecting someone else?

Scarlett

Who would I be expecting?

Rev Green

The man you plan to run away with!?

Scarlett

You know?!

Rev Green

I think everyone knows! Why?

Scarlett

I’m sorry, I just don’t see what it has to do with you!

They stand there facing each other.

Scarlett

I’m going with him! I’m truly sorry but I’m in love with him

Rev Green

No, you’re not! I will make sure of it! If you cannot see what harm you have done then I will show you. Do you think Mrs Peacock needs you ruining her life? The Colonel? Do you really think he would stay with you? you're just a piece of fancy fluff. Not only could you ruined a marriage you have extorted money from poor Mrs White ...I know who you are and by Lord you are not getting away this time.

Rev Green walks towards her offering his hand, she turns away and walks towards a wall that has tools hanging on it, and empty hangers where the bars protrude from.

He follows her and grabs her arm twisting her around to face him. Scarlett pushes the Rev Green hard away from her, he stumbles and fall towards the wall.

Scarlett

Try stopping me now!

With his body close to the bar hangers behind him Scarlett smiles as she pushes again.

CUT TO

INT: London House

The group sit there observing Michael ..waiting for him to acknowledge Bridgett

Michael

Well, Bridgett; another great story but not the right one

Ralph raises his hands in the air as if to surrender.

Ralph

OK Michael, who did do it?

Michael lifts his cards and turns to read them. He looks up and smiles. He throws the cards on the table; face up. Jonathan twists his head to reads them.

Jonathan

“All killed by the murderer in the games room”

All of the players look puzzled except Michael. Michael stands, he reaches his right arm around his back, and reveals a revolver, coldly he points it at Ralph.

Michael

Just as the cards said “killed by the murderer in the games room”!

The gun flashes as he disperses the first round; hitting Ralph. Ralph falls backward and hits the floor with a loud thud. He lays there; face up. A small bullet wound lies in his forehead and a stream of blood rolls down his face. Sylvia and Suzie scream at a deafening pitch, while Jonathan gasps. All stagger backward; away from Michael

Sylvia

What the… Michael, have you gone mad?  (screaming) Why?

Michael looks at Sylvia and raises the revolver at her while tears roll down her face. A second crack sounds, Sylvia falls over the table and slides to the floor. A scarlet red stream emerges from her left breast area. Susie is sitting sobbing; with her head in her hands Michael turns and aims the revolver at Jonathan, who now is making haste towards the door. He squeezes the trigger twice; 2 shots ring out. Jonathan hits the ground hard face down, a crimson sea of blood flows from under him. Michael moves around the table to Bridget.

Bridget looks up tears rolling down her face, her look of sorrow changes, she smiles at Michael and holds out her hand.

Michael

It’s going to be fine!

He holds out the revolver to her. Bridgett takes the gun

Michael

You know what you must do!

He steps back. Susie turns to Bridget.

Susie

If you're going to do it ...then do it!

good bye my dear little girl

Susie holds out her hand, and to her surprise Bridgett accepts it, tears rolling down her face. They squeeze, grip tightly for a second before Suzie turns her head away. Bridget turns to Michael who nods his head, she returns to Susie. Aims the gun and the sound of the shot rings through the room. Susie’s hand grip loosens, she falls down as she slumps over the table; Her blood matted head resting on the games board.

Bridgett places the gun on the table, she walks over to Michael, they hold hands as she places her head on his shoulders. Slowly they walk towards the door, open it and walk through; disappearing into bright light
