A short story inspired by the Imaginarium House one word prompt -- Globe.

Muggy And Murky.

It was only small, their space-craft. Not much bigger than a dinner plate. The two creatures inside had discovered quickly that if they travelled in the darkest hours they would remain unnoticed. And, by adjusting their speed they could follow the darkness all the way around the globe.

The space-crafts occupants were a peculiar looking pair. Their skin was almost reptilian in appearance and because of their size they looked a bit like a cross between a Barbie doll and a crocodile. Their arms were long and thin, with large, three fingered hands; their legs were almost human until you got down to the feet, which were fat, flat and were finished off with three long toes.

Of course the fact that they had tails and eyes that were attached to stalks, marked out their very......alien nature. They had a blunt, snout-like nose and a mouth that had thick greenish lips.

It was not a hostile mission or a peaceful mission; it was just a round-the-world holiday. Like tourists they wanted to glimpse the sights, take in the customs, sample the food and the language. But unlike most holiday makers they stayed out of sight while they did so. There was a lot to learn and a lot to sample while staying under night’s dark blanket, and Muggy and Murky were storing up a library of information.

Muggy and Murky were from a distant planet called Muldopolis Minor265. So far it had remained undetected from Earth, but obviously the opposite was not true. Muldopolis Minor265 was a small planet, always unpleasantly warm, damp and dreary. Instead of land and sea, pretty much the entire planet was a swamp.

The atmosphere on Earth was a bit too dry for the Muldops. Too long in it and they would develop dry coughs that would turn to wheezes and sneezes, not a good thing to happen when you were trying to stay undetected. To prevent this they carried their very own portable air conditioners which work in a polar opposite way to those on Earth.

If you get up to find the air around you clammy, damp and unpleasantly warm, almost as though the atmosphere is sweating – well, that’s a good indication that Muggy has been on a visit. Or perhaps it is dull and gloomy with no sign of the sun, you almost feel like you are peering through a mist – that’s Murky. He’s allergic to sunlight and this is his own variation of our sunscreen.

Of course they mostly stick together on their travels; being social creatures they don’t really like to journey alone. So go outside and feel the air – is it fresh, cool, and pretty bright? If so they have not been to call. But if it is sticky and damp; warm and airless; misty and very grey, there is a good chance that those little travellers from Muldopolis Minor265 are still somewhere nearby.

Keep your eyes peeled and you might just spot Muggy, Murky or their dinner-plate ship. But not if they see you first.
