Nuclear War

I don’t want to live through a nuclear war,

or die, which will happen to us by the score.

I've not felt so threatened, or felt so scared,

as the war of words waging makes sure it gets heard.

Two nations apart, ideologically opposing,

but this is destruction that they are proposing.

Once it’s been started who knows what will be,

it sure won’t be good for you or for me.

Has it been quite so fragile, the fate of the world,

when bombarded with nuclear hatred it’s hurled.

Perhaps it's a nightmare, some media madness,

but panic still grips me along with the sadness.

Will it be unleashed, the fire, the fury?

they’re out there deciding, the judge and the jury.

The innocent people, with those guilty too,

will pay a steep price if you see it all through.

So I’ll sit hear and listen, I’ll try stay alert,

not wanting but needing to know all the dirt.

Think hard before pressing that button of doom

And unleashing that cloud that looks like a mushroom.
