There’s a guy sitting on a park bench reading a newspaper, drinking a cup of coffee, and breathing in the fresh air. He’s about 5’9, has dirty blonde hair, and crystal blue eyes. His eyes are almost puddles of water, deep and moving. He has bags under his eyes, almost black. I notice all of this while walking down the stairs. I’m heading to my boyfriend and I’s wedding shower. He and I are soulmates, I guess you could say. But, those eyes. Something about this guy’s eyes make my steps come to a stop.

“May I sit here?” I ask him, surprised by the words coming out of my mouth.

“Sure.” he replies, not even looking up at me.

I sit down, pulling my phone out of my pocket. I can hear him breathing next to me: soft, calm, and even. I glance over at him, then look back at my phone. I have to be at the shower in thirty minutes. I have plenty of time. I glance over at him again, and he flips a page of his paper.

“Are you gonna’ keep looking at me?” he snaps, looking at my with those wonderful eyes.

“I, um… I just think that your eyes, your eyes, uh… they’re breathtaking.” I whisper.

“My eyes?”

“Yes.”

“Well... “ he said with a little laugh, “ Thanks.”

“You’re welcome. They’re the whole reason I even sat here, actually.”

“You know, your eyes are beautiful too. A deep, sea green with little brown flecks in them. They look like they’ve seen quite a bit of pain and sorrow, a lot of despair. They’re the whole reason I’m even doing this, actually.” he told me with a smirk, then he leaned in and kissed me.

That’s when I knew I wouldn’t be going to my wedding shower.
