I've been doing early morning shopping almost every Saturday for over thirty years now. This poem just came out.

Night falls, and the city sleeps,

Shadows everywhere, insects creeps.

I alone in the darkened street,

Just walking along, kicking up my feet.

Not a soul to be seen,

Not a sound I hear.

It all seems so mean

That no one at all really care.

Early morning in the town,

I'm the first and only one awake.

I should take the first prize crown,

And make a clean break.

But then they start showing up,

The streets are now pack.

Doors open from every shop,

I've done mine, and on my way back.

No rushing hurriedly to catch the bus

Taking my time, not making any fuss.

Shopping done, I nod a few winks,

Got my bread, my tea, and my drinks.
