A procession of convoluted women throughout my life have thrown me ungraspable ropes.

All have slipped through my fingers.

Some were too short; some too frayed.

Some too sharp on the palms; too hard to grasp.

A few arched just out of reach; some already tied in Gordian knots.

Would that I could cherry-pick Lisa’s coruscating mind, Rachel’s sultry insouciance and Jenny’s straightforward goodness, and entwine them to last an eternity.

But no craftsman exists to bind those strands.

However, you, my love, tug at my heart strings.

Your fibre is the surest, most comforting and vibrant thread.

And you’ve dropped it right in my hands.

So I take as firm a hold as I can.

For as long as I can.

Hoping beyond hope I can never let you go.
