That voice in my head told me not to speak; just sit and smile. I am new to the group and poor first impressions are difficult to alter. I have been in this field for thirty years and have acquired many experiences but am bright enough to realize no one knows it all. With that said, I did it. I “talked too much”.

I could feel the temperature in the room cool. The quiet whispers people mutter when they are ridiculing someone. My colleague was directing the group and asked us to prepare something. Then she called on me.

I felt my heart beat faster and my face blush a bit. I showed my cards and my decent vocabulary skills. Responding eloquently and in a concise manner. Now I will have to deal with the side way glances.

Perhaps I have been silenced by too many for too long. That would explain my desire to speak when I have the opportunity to do so. Speak softly and be prepared – that’s my motto now.
