CHAPTER 1

"Music is the reason I have survived all this mass chaos. I have lost many things in my life. I've lost my childhood home. I've lost the trust of some of my family. I lost my inspiration to keep singing after making All-State and Honor's Choir." He grabs his bottle of Mountain Dew and chugs it down, letting out a massive belch. He looks to his left at his bookshelf to see his trophies. "Mikey Andrews - ALL-STATE CHOIR 2006 / Mikey Andrews - HONOR'S CHOIR 2007" He turns back to his computer screen to see what he has typed. As he reads what he input, he thought about what it used to be like in that choir room. His teacher, Mrs. Kelby, always had 4 students, from different ranges to come up. He begins to softly sing to himself just like he was that one day... "When I was prenticed in Plymoth I went to see my dear. The candles, they were burning. The moon shown bright and clear." He remembered the look on Mrs. Kelby's face when he hit that high note. "I knocked up on her window to ease her of her pain. She rose to let me in then she barred the doors again." That choir class was the only place that Mikey felt alive. Now, Mikey sits at a table in his living room. Wearing a pair of blue shorts, Blue shirt and a blue plaid shirt. He continues typing while kneeling at the table. "I will never forget the day that I lost my motivation and charisma to keep singing. The day I graduated from High school. The day my life went to hell.

Some days I don't feel like trying anymore. I'm getting nowhere! Mikey sends the text message to his best friend, Cale. As he waits for a response, impatiently, Mikey begins singing to himself again. This time, words that he has never sung. "I looked up to you from a very young age. You were my hero. day by day.." Immediately after singing, he opens up a new Word Document and types that down. He has been typing many one-liners down in hopes that he could puzzle together something that would catch the attention of the world. Mikey's phone chimes with a ringtone from his favorite video game. "Dude, don't you dare give up! You still have so much more in you than you can imagine!" In spite of his kind words, Mikey just didn't feel the passion anymore. He saves his work and goes to get ready for work at his chicken job. He breads chicken at Bucket O' Chicken. He slides his work shirt on and slowly walks out the door whispering to himself "What I'd give to be in that choir room again."

"Cale! What time does your vocal practice start?" Cole jumps from his chair and drops his phone on the desk. He had just gotten done texting Mikey back when his room mate called out the question. Cole looks at his phone to see the time is 4:37 P.M. "In a little less than an hour." Cale walks around his room looking at the pictures of him, Mikey, and Ronny. Both Cale and Ronny were in band together in high school and knew Mikey from middle school. Still like brothers, the three of them. Cale, however, was in a special program where he could take half band class and half choir class. Cale remembers that one day when Mrs. Kelby called him from the bass section, Mikey from the tenor, Christina from alto, and Victoria from soprano. Mrs Kelby had us sing "Blow the candles out" and the vocal quality of the four voices was like heavenly angels singing the Hallelujah Chorus... At least according to Mrs. Kelby. Cale walks downstairs and stares at the wall where his award for Baritone Saxophone Master hangs. He takes a towel and wipes it down when his roommate, Yancy, places his hand on his shoulder. "How is Mikey doing?" asks Yancy. "Well... he seems to be..."RING" Cale is cut off by the doorbell. "I got it." exclaims Cale. He opens the door and there is an elderly man in a yellow top hat at the door. "May I help you, sir?" asks Cale to the man. "I regret to inform you that your former choir teacher, Mrs. Carolyn Kelby has passed on. She was in a plane on her way back from L.A. and she jumped off the plane. The body has not been found." Cale has a blank empty expression on his face as it slowly changes to Pain and Loss. "I'm sorry, son." The old man walks away with a heavy sigh. Cale falls to his knees trying to piece this all together. Some time passes before Cale realizes what time it is. He looks at his watch to see it display 5:23 P.M. "SHIT! 7 minutes!"

The moon was full and the stars were bright. They were shining extra bright now. Mikey had just clocked out from work and something had urged his head up to the stars. "Wow, so majestic." Mikey always loved the stars. Since his days in school, he loved astronomy. He could name the planets closest to furthest from the sun. Mikey made his way to his car and picked up his phone from the middle console. "One new message" Mikey reads the message and drops his phone on the concrete and quickly loses his composure. His manager comes to his car and saw Mikey bawling on his steering wheel. She immediately reaches in and holds him for comfort. "Mikey, what's wrong? What happened?" She slowly rubs his back hoping to calm his nerves. "My- My- My.." He stutters a bit more and loses his composure more. The manager reaches down for his phone and reads the message. "Mikey.... I'm sorry I have to say this... Mrs. Kelby is dead. Call me when you can." The manager then hugs him tightly and looks up at the sky. "Maybe the reason the stars are shimmering so much is because Carolyn is up there now sharing her light with the other stars." Mikey looks up at her, still sobbing with snot running down his nose "You... knew her..Nikki?" Nikki looks up at the sky then back down at Mikey letting out a big sigh. "Yes... We took choir class together. We were best friends." Mikey sniffles. "She talked about you all the time, Mikey. You... were her favorite." Mikey begins crying some more as he struggles to say goodbye to his Dumbledore. Mikey wipes the snot off his nose with his sleeve.  "When's... the funeral?"
