I brushed my teeth and exited my room almost crashing into Dominic but he catches me.

"How many times do I have to catch you before you can walk without running into things?" He laughs and I punch him in the gut which made him laugh more. "Damn you can punch." I smile and shrug.

"I took Aikido growing up, I'm a 2nd Dan black belt." I glance at the clock and he wraps his arms around me, resting his chin on my shoulder nuzzling my ear. "Do we have to go?" I smile grabbing my keys and pulling out of his grip.

"Yes, I have been trying to get answers of that woman since I was nine. Besides I'd like to know why I don't get visions when I touch you." We climb into my Jeep and head to Belle's Books.

As we pull in I see my mom in a very heated conversation with a dark-skinned woman with blond braided hair and a multi-color sun dress. I wonder what they are talking about I don't take my eyes off of them as I get out of the Jeep. I walk to the door and Dominic holds it open for me.

"I don't give a crap what the Council said, she's not going anywhere!" My mom's voice booms through the building. I have never heard her shout before it sends chills down my spine.

"Emma she's found him at a remarkably young age, the youngest on record. The Council wants to know why and what makes her so special and ask some questions." The woman's voice is dark. I turn to Dominic, "Act like a customer but stay close." He nods and heads a different direction.

"That's total bull and you know it. They will tie them down and poke and prod at them until they get some big reaction! She's seventeen and she doesn't even know what she is. You can go back to the Council and tell them if they want to get to them they will have to go through the entire Lewis-Thomson Tribe including all our allies, which is most of North America's Tribes. Now get out of my book store and stay the hell away from my daughter and her Destined." I come around the corner and my mom sees me we lock eyes and they tell me don't trust her.

Dominic sees it too and brushes his hand on my back briefly. The woman turns to me. "Ah you must be Zoey." The woman puts her hand out but I don't move to take it. I'm in full defense mode. After a moment she drops her hand.

"Right. I was just telling your mother that I'm a recruiter for a school that is interested in you." I frown realizing they didn't know I was listening, that gives me an advantage. "Mmhm, and what about me is stinking interesting?" She smiles and it makes my skin crawl.

"Why your ability to see visions when you touch someone of course." I cross my arms. "Right and I can also fly and turn invisible and breathe fire. This isn't some comic book lady. I don't know what you're talking about I don't have visions." She frowns.

"Then why the gloves?" I don't flinch. "What gloves?" I hold my hands up and she seems confused. "But my intel says." I put my hand up to stop her.

"Listen lady I don't know who you are or what you want but the answer is no. Now get out of here before I call the cops." She doesn't move so I grab Dominic's bare hand. "See no vision." She stares at me I pray that she buys my bluff.

"Layla get of my store now, I won't ask again." She turns on her heels and smiles at me wickedly and Dominic stands in front of my mom and I as a shield. "She told you to leave." He says in a deep menacing voice. Layla heads to the door but stopped before closing it

"I'm leaving, but Emma the Council will be back. If you refuse them again you will be starting a war." I watched her leave then push past Dominic to my mom pointing a finger at her. "Answers now!"
