Masters Spite
The ground is chequered black and white,
we’re acting to our masters spite;
they compel our actions at their will,
no matter how much blood we spill.
We’ll move on forward to attack,
and at ‘Retreat’ we’ll draw right back,
for we are but their mindless drones
who try to acquire them their thrones.
But look out there, just to the left,
there’s something that will make bereft
their fighting forces, societies too,
for it will wash away their glue.
The waves will crash with mighty force,
scatter plans to way off course.
The players swept straight out to sea,
the normal people – you and me.
They fought each other but they forgot
that alone, they’re surely not;
for nature’s wrath is beyond their rule
and treats them both just like a fool.

This poem is so powerful. And your last line; the best punch line. Amazing work, Hully.
Good poem. --- I'm afraid that those to the far right and left never seem to realize that the pendulum never stops swinging. The more they push or pull, the further it will swing back the other way.
Some nice political subtleties and some not so subtle nudges at society, all of which ring true. Great cover photo, too!
Yes..it is always amazing how the big guys crumble in nature's wrath...earthquakes send the pundits into a fear frenzy..hurricanes immobilize them...I feel badly that those of you in other countries have to watch the stupidity of our leaders..and fear their actions...We do too...This guy would have been taken out a long time ago though, if not for the people of North Korea and their innocence...
A thinking poem
Great poem Hull...Tom...
I like the way that you used chess and related it back to politics. Ideally both sides would be civil but thats never been the case and likely never will be. Interestingly enough I actually quite chess, haven't played in it a long time, though. Great work!
