Dismay is too light a word for what I see all around.

Gone are the days of 'help is on the way' we're headed down.

Callous indifference, blind and deaf, anger and greed,

we have replaced caring with, 'what's in it for me?'

With Puerto Rico, and before that, Mexico,

it's abundantly clear, 'hey, you're on your own.'

Our joke of a president is but a symptom,

a harbinger of much worse to come.

We need to look in the mirror, and be honest,

WE allowed this, WE created this, if we truly confess.

We are the captain of this rudderless ship,

anger, callousness, greed, poor judgment, joined at the hip.
