This is the first poem I've published in a while due to school demands. As soon as I sat down at my desk, it just flowed right through me and into my word document. We all struggle with this,
seeing people move on with their lives, while it feels like we're stuck in time. It's never too late to be who you want to be, just block out all the rest and only worry about yourself.

It’s not always spoken, but we’ve been shaped and molded our entire lives

From the time we emerged from the womb, until well after high school

But what if we don’t fit into that mold, do we throw away the archives?

Start our lives anew, and pick and choose from the gene cesspool?

Or do we simply go with the flow and move on as life intended?

I should block out all the rest and live just for me.

Focus only on me and make my ancestors proud from which I’ve descended

And while people are vacationing, getting married, and doubling their pay

I’ll be right here—struggling to save a dime, still in school, and single as fuck

What’s the saying? Doesn’t matter where I am now, but where I’ll be one day?

What if that’s not the case? What if someone else has been given my good luck?

I need to block out all the rest and live solely for me.

This isn’t a race or competition to see who gets to the finish line first

There are no life achievement awards or money waiting to be cashed in

And no matter how much it stresses me out to want to quench that thirst

I must remember my goals, my hopes, my dreams, my passion

They’re the only things that matter, even if my subconscious disagrees

I choose to block out all the rest and live only for me!
