T’is The Season?

Hey, guys, it’s that time again. The one where we should all be merry and bright; the one where we should spend, spend, spend. But hang on, that’s not right. It’s only the first half of October.

In the store the other day I was looking for something just a bit different, just for a change as the same things over and over get so boring. And what did I see on the shelf? ‘Christmas Slices’! And just underneath them, there were boxes of mince pies, big round Christmas puddings, and even Christmas cakes.

Once those had caught my eye I noticed all sorts of seasonal goodies, in amongst the Halloween ones. There were jelly eyeballs, crispy bones, sweet ‘n’sour spiders, all mixed up with chocolate tree decorations, selection packs, and those tins of biscuits the stores seem to stock by the thousands.

I know they don’t want to miss out; the stores are so keenly competitive that they are neglecting to stock all of the normal stuff. They want to entice me, and you, to part with our money on good ol’ Xmas – let’s face it, an early start will mean more money spent.

But there’s another side to this; if I hang on until nearer the time, I might well come up with some bargains. The stores will all be trying to make space for their next money spinner – Valentine’s Day and Easter eggs in January!
