Oh, To Be An Ostrich.

Oh, to be an ostrich, that’s all that I can think,

the others all just fly around, don’t even stop to blink.

I’m having palpitations, my breathing is too light,

this body that I’m living in should be used for flight;

it’s alright for the other birds, they dive and then they swoop,

me, I’m scared to spread my wings let alone loop-the-loop.

I’m standing on the cliff edge and my knees begin to knock,

this feathered bird is terrified to let go of this rock.

The ground, it is a long way down, can barely be made out,

if my wings refuse to work I’ll splatter there, no doubt.

An aviophobic bird leads to a life that’s full of fright,

when I find that I’m anxious at the sight of any height.

If I’d been an ostrich, then to land I would be bound

and no one would expect me to fly high above the ground.
