A little poem about a (little?) job in the yard.

With Pick and Shovel I ventured forth

Like a gallant knight off to war.

There were things in the yard that had to go,

A simple matter, --- of that I was sure.

Well I shoveled this and picked at that

And broke a water-line in the process.

"I need a new one, "I told myself,

"It is ten years old, more or less."

When I dug up the pipe I found some others,

They were noticeably cracked and not too strong.

"I'll replace them all," I told myself,

"A trip to the nursery shouldn't take long."

Three hour later my vehicle was packed

With every imagined thing I would need.

I even rented a trench-digging machine,

Bought some sod and ground-cover seed.

I tilled and dug, and trenched awhile,

And I did the same the very next day

When my wife saw the mess she asked with Glee,

"A brand new yard for my birthday?"

Well I must confess, I was without words

And finding denial was really hard.

What could I say, she was so ecstatic,

So I asked, "What trees do you want in our yard?"

In the blink of an eye she gave me some drawings,

She had sketched them over the years.

The very next day I hired a contractor,

It was that --- or deal with the tears.

It all worked out for the best, (I think?),

But that was thousands of dollars ago.

The up-side is I remembered her birthday.

Well that's what she thinks, you know?

Oh, nice one, JE. And a case of lucky timing, too.
