Tricks With Time

Each and every minute feels more like an hour --

everything’s been done when there’s no water and no power.

It feels like being cut off from the world, from other people,

an alternate universe that maintains just a tiny peep-hole.

The house in isolation – society is severed,

I’m hanging on to hope that it will not go on forever.

I’m missing talking to you; it’s like being left behind,

I can look and look forever but you are nowhere I can find.

There’s a vacant hole now where my heart should surely be

and all because our messages can’t fly across that sea.

I’m hoping against hope that power will be back tonight,

before my negativity sees defeat reclaim my sight.

For now my arms are reaching out, to you I want to cling

so I can bask in the belonging that your presence now would bring.
