In a small house in the town of Liverpool lived a woman. She was married and had 2 children. The elder son was very intelligent, and passed his university. He was 2 years older than his younger brother. After he graduated he moved away to London to start a business, in which he was successful. When the boys were young, their father who was also wealthy died due to Chronic Bronchitis. This gave grief to them all especially their mother. Due to depression, their mother started to drink, but was luckily stopped by her eldest son, who was her pride and joy.

Mike, however, Was not very good in his studies. At the age of 17 he started to take some drugs. His friends were forcing him to take more, but he refused. When he owed people money, and was usually beaten up if he did not pay. His mother thought that there was nothing she could do about him.She fell ill and was bedridden for days. Mike, who was just 17 at that time, was worried and decided to do something with his life. He needed a change.

Matthew, who was 20,arrived at the house to help with things. He told Mike that he still had a chance to succeed since he graduated from High school, but first of all he must clear the mess that he had made. First of all, they had to pay off the money that he owed to his previous gang members. He owed them a grand total of £80. Matthew was shocked about this and asked what he had been doing all this time. Mike did not want to say this but truth is honey which is bitter so he confessed.

It took 3 hours for them to sort out the mess that Mike had made. But soon, he was free from all the cash he owned. Now he had to get a way back into University. Thankfully, he got decent grades when he graduated from High school. The only thing left to do was to see if any universities would like to accept him coming 1 month late. Most of them declined, but one of them accepted him, but he would have to wait until the current class of the university has graduated. This would take some time.

It was time to send Mike to the university. Amazingly, Mike was doing very well in his studies, mostly getting B’s or A’s. His life was finally starting to change. He made a new friend who was close to him, named Josh. Josh was average in his studies, so he mainly relied on Mike for help.

Things were good at the start, but they started to go downhill fast. Some students knew about Mike taking drugs about a year ago. They made fun of him and ruined his reputation. This, however, did not stop Mike on his road to success.

One day, as Mike was leaving the University, the old gang members came up to him and asked him for a loan, since he was their ex-gang member. Mike refused to help him, but all he said was a simple ‘no’. Enraged, the gang members beat him up. The brutal thing is that they took him to their hangout and held him captive unless someone would pay. Matthew noticed that he was gone for a while, but he obviously knew where he was. He called the police and directed them to the hangout. Just as the police got in, guns started blazing. 2 gang members tried to shoot the police, but they both ended up being shot in the arm instead. Mike became unconscious. He could not hear anything. The last thing he saw was his brother with a worried expression on his face.

Mike woke up in the hospital. He had a broken leg and arm from the fight. His older brother looked miserable. Their beloved mother had passed away due to severe illness. They both had to attend her funeral, but Mike could not move for 1 week. He told Mat to go instead and leave him at the hospital.

Mat returned to school, healthy and fit. He managed to complete all that he missed. After the incident, the school had hired more security to prevent any incident like that happening again. Mike was asked to go to the office and explain what happened. Yet  again, he explained the truth of what he did before he started to become successful. Mike thought his life of studying was over. Instead of kicking him out, they told him he did a good job in leaving that gang as it could have ruined his bright future. Mike, being relieved from that experience, returned to his classwork to continue his work. Most of the time, he would come from 10th to 2nd place in the highest marks. Matthew got a job in France, so before he left he bought a simple car and a house for Michael. He also gave him some money on which he can spend on food or electricity bills. Days and Seasons passed, and Mike was almost done with his University. He took interest in engineering and building.

The exams soon rolled in, and Mike attempted them with confidence. While most people were stressing, he remained perfectly calm. After the exams he got his results, and he got an A for all of his subjects. Then he remembered his mother. First, she was angry and depressed about him, and now she would be extremely proud of him.

Matthew came to his graduation, But this time he brought his wife with him. When they reached home, Matthew told Mike it was time to plan the final stage of his life, getting a job. Since Michael took engineering and architecture, he had a choice of being an architect or an engineer. Mike knew exactly what he had to do.

10 years later, a new building opened, built by the famous architect Michael Cormac. Written on stone outside of the building were the names of his Mother and brother, who had helped him go from rags to riches. Mike was requested by the Prime Minister to build something for him. They needed to rebuild a section of the city. Mike replied with a smile on his face “It’s time to change.”
