Wake up

By Leesianna Pruneda

Her eyes opened suddenly. She looked around and grazed over the dark room she lay in with panic. She moved her eyes constantly because it was the only part of her body that she could move. Her body lay there, limp. She had no control over it. The only window in the room allowed for very little light that the moon offered. She could not move and because of this, she felt as though she could not breathe.

She woke up.

She found herself in the same place. Still, she could not move. Only her eyes could wander. But this time, the door was slightly cracked open and the hallway light outside of the door was on. But the light from the hallway did not come into the room with warm comfort. Instead, the light made her more uneasy than before because it was being cut off by a tall figure. He stood staring at her through the crack of the door. He had no definite shape.

She woke up.

Again, she was paralyzed. She could not move her arms or legs. Not even a finger. She could only mover her eyes. The door was closed again and the hallway light was off. The tall figure was no longer in the crack of the doorway. But he was at the foot of her bed. The light coming in from the window allowed her to see him better than when he was at the doorway. But that did not matter. He was only a shadow. He towered over the bed. He still had no definite shape. He did not even look like he had bones. But he stood there. Staring at her.

She woke up.

Still unable to move. He was no longer at the foot of the bed. He stood on the side of the bed that she lay on. He was leaning over her. His face two feet away from hers because of his height. She tried to let out a scream but she could not even move her mouth, let alone open it. She had no control of anything. Only her eyes but she was too scared to look away from him. She lay still, wanting desperately to move or at least let out a small noise. But she could not. She just lay there, despite her efforts of demanding that her body allow her to move.  But her body did not listen.

She woke up.

The fear she felt was immense. She looked around for the tall, shadow figure. He was not there. When she woke up this time, she found that she could move. She sat up feeling relieved but still terrified. She immediately went to turn on the light. She opened the door to the room and made her way downstairs, turning on every light switch on the way. She grabbed her purse and made her way to the front door. With relief, she finally reached for the doorknob to the front door and

She woke up.
