Believe It Or Not?

I had believed that we were seriously under threat from World War 3 breaking out. For a while it was all but impossible to tune in to any television news without hearing about the deteriorating relationships between North Korea and various other countries, but especially the US.

Then it turned in to some sort of media joke session. ‘Donald Trump tweeted this, Kim Jong-un threatened that’, and we were speeding headlong into a situation that would quickly spiral out of control.

And then......silence. There is rarely any mention of North Korea on our news at least any more. Apart from concerning trade sanctions, and how currencies might be manipulated and managed. The threat of war, it seemed, had vanished.

I was somewhat taken aback this morning, then, to see not one but numerous posts on the internet news media proclaiming that World War 3 was imminent and pretty much unavoidable.

Who to believe, that’s the question? Is the internet just full of alarmist and sensational propaganda? Are they themselves trying to stir things up – and if so, why? Who could benefit from a full-scale nuclear war. Or is it the mainstream news putting on blinkers, hiding threats? If we thought the world was about to end would society just break down completely?

I don’t know which is right, maybe neither, maybe both in part. In the meantime, I’m just going to have to sit here in confusion or just shut my eyes – and ears – to the whole thing.
