Nature Knows

Like yearning lovers’ aching hearts

J'ai seulement des yeux pour toi

I long for spring at last to start

Warmth, hope and life suffused

Sigh I, for heav’nly joy it brings

Young dainty scents of delicate things

Each nascent life already king,

Audacious in debut

Despite earth, sun, moon, stars aligned

And expectations thus assigned

Disgusting skies of grey I find

In this cold morning’s news

Though keen to mull my outraged thoughts

With some old vice my last resort

Come phantoms flirting to exhort

my grief with saner view

Their flut’ring shadows snare my eyes

Launched troupes of bright blue butterflies

I’m sure I hear their joyful cries

A paradigming cue

A baby’s smile, a rainbow’s cheer,

A joey pouched with mother dear

Sweet birdsongs in a dark night’s fear

And sunlit, frosty dew

How can my neediness be traced

By nature reaching to replace

my helplessness with warm embrace?

I don’t know, but it’s true
