Trying to outrun the aftermath of the Great Famine, seventeen year old Ashling believes her family's only chance for survival is with one less mouth to feed.

On the run, Ashling discovers her ability to control the element Air. Her choice to leave Ireland saves her life, but as a result her family is murdered by a religious order who finds element
manipulators evil. Ashling only has seconds to choose to run with a fire manipulator, Peter, who has been stalking her, or risk death at the hands of the religious group.

Taken to London, Ashling discovers the real reason Peter had been following her. As the final piece to an Aristocratic collection, Ashling must master her gift of Air or risk the wrath of the man
who now owns her, Master Fairfax.

With friendship, brewing romance and whispers of a rebellion, Ashling begins to come into herself and her ability; But when Fairfax Manor is invaded by the people who murdered her family, she must
either set aside her desire for revenge to save those she cares for, or give in and be the death of them all
