The Santa Suit

When Dad dressed up as Santa,

He bought himself a suit,

All red and edged with white fur,

He already had black boots.

When Dad dressed up as Santa,

He padded out his size;

He didn’t tell us first

For it was to be a big surprise.

When Dad dressed up as Santa

He wore a big white beard,

With that white hair on his head

I must say that he looked weird.

When Dad dressed up as Santa

He made my sister cry;

She didn’t recognize him --

I really wonder why!

When Dad dressed up as Santa

My Mom chased him down the path,

She didn’t know who he was

Which made the neighbours laugh.

When Dad dressed up as Santa

He’d never known the fuss he’d cause;

He even terrified the dog

Who hid behind his paws.

When Dad took off that Santa suit

And packed it all away

We all let out a relieved sigh

And hoped that it would stay

Forever in that cupboard

And not brought back out in light.

We hoped he hadn’t scared the real one

From calling in the night!
