The Tempest And The Flower

It came in like a lion, this wind so very strong,

it would cause some damage and it would not take it long.

It blew around the houses, lashed around the trees,

even though it wasn’t cold you’d feel like you would freeze.

The leaves, those left, stood not a chance, and branches they did split;

if you were stood beneath them, you’d probably get hit.

The rain it brought went lashing, splashing to the ground;

the wind it whistled violently with a tremendous sound.

There stood one single flower, as though in great defiance,

it thought it had it all worked out, it’s total self-reliance.

But it should have thought more deeply, considered it’s own place,

did it really stand a chance when storms are giving chase.

The rain, it bashed it’s petals, the wind tore at it’s stem,

it really did not have the strength to stand up to them.

The tempest soon blew itself out, the sun began to shine,

but the flower had taken too much and was now far from fine.

But the sun, it did it’s magic, and the flower stood again,

it might have had a beating but it was very far from slain.
