A PLACE IN MY HEART

It has adorned my wall, a precious reminder,

Of a time when I thought nothing would alter.

That my mother would always be there for me,

A constant, not just a loving memory.

In my mind she is there, mixing her paint,

With every brush stroke, her face enrapt.

Absorbed in the scene she is bringing to life,

Her fortitude and creativity, rife.

There on the wall, hangs her passion, her spirit,

Always there, for me to revisit.

A quaint little hamlet, bathed in sunlight,

An old stone bridge, a cobbled street.

A spade, a wheelbarrow for years have lain wait,

Waiting for tradesmen, eternally late.

A bent old woman, sweeps the step,

Of a quaint little cottage, with its rose bed.

This painting means such a lot to me,

It is symbolic of what she used to be.

A time when Mom was a beacon so bright,

Until dementia, cruelly snuffed out her light.

In the atmosphere, her life essence looms,

For posterity, a treasured family heir-loom.

She had once been the rock, on who we depended,

But we lost our Mom, long before her life ended.
