It all started on the day you said those three words to me.

"I hate you." Jamie Sanders said to him, those words couldn't be any clearer. "Wh-what?" Justin Cartman was surprised, those words stung, but not in a good way. "I hate you, you heard me loud and clear!" Jamie scoffed, then turned away and left. Justin's eyes were open wide, what was he expecting? Of course, she hates me. He thought, but there was another thing he wanted to know.

Why? Why did she hate him? Of all people, Justin had to fall for her.

For the past few months, Justin had his eye on her. Had followed her on all her social media, even if she rarely posted anything. Had been friends with all her friends, and there was actually just a few. Had took interest in various things Jamie thought she was interested in, musicals, movies, arts and crafts. He could already tell she was a quiet person, one that would keep most things to herself.

But something about her just... made Justin stick onto her. Like he never wanted to let her go, even if he never had a grip on her before. He knew Jamie, and Jamie knew him. He loved Jamie, and Jamie hated him. Just the thought of that made Justin wonder what sin he had committed to make him suffer so much.

"Don't worry, Justin." someone said behind him, putting a hand on his shoulder. He turned to see it was Jamie's closest friend, Vanessa Murphy. "She's just in a bad mood today." she continued. Justin chuckled, he knew better. "It seems like she's always in a bad mood when I'm around." he said, feeling a little sad.

"Cheer up, Jus! She's not one to lose her temper that easily, she's just... a little troubled, ya know?" Vanessa said, letting go of Justin's shoulder. No, I don't know. he wanted to say, but wasn't up for it. Instead he sighed.

"I wish I could make her forget her troubles, and make her smile." he said softly, just loud enough for Vanessa to hear. That cute little smile that she does, all the time when she's happy. he smiled, like an idiot. Vanessa giggled, did it really sound that cheesy? "Boy, you're in too deep now, Justin. I can't pull you out anymore." she teased. "When have you ever tried to pull me out, Vanessa?" he joked.

"Besides, no matter what I do, it just seems to make Jamie hate me more." he paused. Vanessa wanted to say something, but she was waiting for Justin. "And what pains me I don't know why." he leaned against a wall, crossing his arms. What eggshell could he possibly have stepped on for Jamie to hate him that much? "Well, you two are rivals." Vanessa said, leaning against the wall just a few inches away, close enough so they could still hear what the other was saying.

"I wasn't the one who started it. Jamie just went up to me one day and said that she challenged me to something. And she just kinda-" he flailed his arms around him "just boom! The whole school decided that we were rivals." he said, throwing his arms to his sides, then slowly putting them into his pockets. "And yet, you still love her..." Vanessa sighed, moving away from the wall to stand up straight.

"Justin Cartman..." she paused, looking at him from head to toe. "Hopelessly in love with Jamie Sanders." she finished and walked off. Justin knew he was being stupid, loving someone who might never return the feelings. He wanted to leave those feelings so badly, he loved her so much that it hurt.

He stood up straight again and walked towards his locker, grabbing a few things just before he left the school. School just ended and he didn't have anything else to do anyway- well, he didn't feel like doing anything else. He put his earphones on before leaving school grounds, hoping that music would take his mind off of things, even if it was just for a while.

He started walking towards the park, he hoped that drawing would help him escape reality too. Luckily, he had brought his sketchbook and some art supplies with him. Drawing was a way he could express himself freely, drawing what he felt was right, what he felt at the time.

And right now, he felt terrible.

He sat down on a bench and started sketching. He always liked what he drew, but he never showed anyone. Not even his closest friends. If he ever wanted to show his art to anyone, he wanted it to be Jamie-

God dangit, stop thinking about Jamie for just one Goddamn- he groaned, covering his face with his hands. Jamie just always seemed to pop up in his head no matter what. He looked at his drawing, and took a few moments to realize what he had drawn.

Jamie. Of course... people always said 'draw what's on your mind'. And who was on Justin's mind? Jamie. He looked at it, blushing at how much it actually looked like her. Short wavy hair, adorable cheekbones, beautiful dark eyes. To him, she looked like an angel and a devil. Someone so beautiful and sweet that she could kill you. He giggled at the thought, realizing how ridiculous it was.

He took out his earphones, taking a moment to listen to his environment. He liked nature, he always wondered what it was like to live in a small cabin near the countryside. Just nothing but the grass, flowers, birds, wind- all those things. He looked around him, noticing the people walking around the park. He was enjoying his time when he saw someone on a bench not so far away from him. It looked like they were... crying?

Justin suddenly got curious. He didn't want to bother the person, but he looked again and realized it was Jamie. What? Why? How? When?- Justin had so many questions, and wanted all the answers to them.

He stood up from his seat, slowly walking towards the shaky figure. Yeah, she was crying. Justin stood over her, but she wasn't aware of him. He reached out a hand, until an important thought ran straight into his mind.

Wait, she hates me... I'll only make her even more mad, or sad? This was a bad idea I should just- Justin was just about to bulk it and run, but stood frozen when Jamie raised her head, looking at Justin straight in the eye. He just wanted the ground to swallow him up right then and there. "Justin...?" she cried out softly.

"Yeah...?" he said, not knowing what to do. Jamie stared at him, Justin was nervous. Should he lend a hand? Leave? Yeah, maybe Jamie wanted him to leave but didn't want to say it. "I'm sorry, I'll just leave you here..." Justin said nervously. Truth be told, that was the last thing he wanted to do.

Jamie's eyes widened, showing Justin the pair of gorgeous eyes that he loved so much. Justin began to move away from her, but she reached out her hand, grabbing his wrist. "No, please. I really need someone with me right now..." she said softly. Justin was surprised. Heh, like Jamie would ever stop surprising him.

"I'm sorry, what?" he said, hoping that what he heard was true. "Please just, sit down with me?" she said. Justin couldn't be happier. He nodded, and sat down next to her. Jamie let go of her grip but Justin hoped that she never had.

They sat there in silence for a few minutes. Justin was comfortable, but he wanted to strike up a conversation. He wanted to hear her voice, try to make her laugh, make her happy and forget what made her sad in the first place. He was going to say something, but Jamie beat him to it.

"Is this a sketchbook?" she asked, looking at it. Justin took a moment to process what she said, and nodded. "Yeah, why?" he asked, hoping the conversation wouldn't end. "Do you like to draw?" she asked again. "I love to draw."

"Can I see some of your drawings?" she said, looking at Justin. He looked at her eyes for a brief moment, then nodded and gave her the sketchbook. She took it gently, and opened the first page. She looked at it for long moments, before flipping to another page, and another. Justin admired the way she looked at it, how she was so focused on it. He smiled, and then he realized.

There's a sketch of Jamie in there...

His heart started beating faster, his mind was racing. He really didn't want Jamie to see that sketch, it would make her feel uncomfortable, weird, or even worse. It would give another reason for Jamie to hate him.

Before he could grab the sketchbook from her hands, it was too late. Jamie saw the sketch, she was looking at it, and it made Justin feel even more terrible. She looked at it for a long time, being silent, which made Justin really worried. He wanted to say something, wanted to tell her that a friend drew it or something.

"Is- is this me?" she asked, still looking at the sketch. Justin really, really wanted the ground to eat him up now. "Yes." he answered quickly. Then realizing what he just said and immediately face palmed himself, he couldn't stop blushing. Justin, why did you say yes?

Jamie giggled, using a hand to cover her mouth. She looked adorable like that. Her giggles slowly turned into laughter. "What? Are you kidding me?" she asked, still laughing. Justin tried so hard not to blush at the sound of her laughter, it was the most precious sound ever. "No, its really you." Justin said, he didn't care what Jamie said next.

Jamie finally stopped laughing and looked at the picture, smiling. "Its really beautiful..." she said softly. Justin's heart skipped a beat, he was falling for Jamie all over again. "Th-thank you..." he said. You're really beautiful too... he said in his head. He wanted to say that so much, he wanted to say so many sweet things to her, all the thoughts he had in his head since he first saw Jamie.

"What?" Jamie said, which surprised Justin too. "What?" he said in return, being genuinely confused. "You said... I was really beautiful." Jamie said slowly. Justin's eyes widened, and his face was all red again. "Wait, what?" he asked, hoping it wasn't true.

"You said 'You're really beautiful too'." she said, confirming him. Justin wanted to punch himself, he blushed and covered his face again. People always said that he spoke his mind, he didn't think that it was actually true. Maybe that's why Vanessa was giggling earlier today. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to creep you out I just- I didn't know why I said that please forgive me." all those words came out all at once and all so quickly.

Jamie giggled, placing a hand over her mouth once more, trying to conceal her smile. "What?" she said while trying to maintain her laughter. "Why are you apologizing?" she said, smiling at him. "You know saying that means a lot to a girl, right?" she continued, closing the sketchbook. Justin looked at her, putting his hands down. "But... you hate me?" he said, it sounded more like a question than a statement.

Jamie looked at him, realizing what he said. She sighed. "Justin..." she said, looking away from him. "Yeah?" Justin said. "Do you really love me?" What? "Of- of course I do- wait... wait hold on a second, wait what?" he stammered, but stopped when Jamie looked at him. She was serious. All of this was too sudden, he was prepared for this, but not really.

"I just need one word, Justin. Yes, or no?" she said. The sun was starting to set, with colors of orange, yellow, red and black slowly filling up the sky. Justin looked at Jamie, looked right into her eyes. The eyes that made him fall for Jamie so much, so painfully much.

"Yes." he said as clearly as possible. "I love you, Jamie. I love you and I don't know why." he said. Jamie was frozen, he wasn't sure if Jamie was listening but he kept speaking anyway. "I love you, I really do. I don't know why you hate me, so I'm sorry. I'm sorry about whatever I said or did wrong. I love you, and I'll say it everyday if you want me to." He stopped, thinking about what to say next.

"Jamie Sanders, I'm in love with you and I want to be with you." he said, finally finishing. Wait, that was too much. I said too much. She still hates me, why did I say that? Oh no... he thought, he closed his eyes tightly for a moment, but he didn't shy away, not this time.

Jamie was still frozen, motionless, like a doll. Justin was really scared now. "Jamie?..." he said softly. The sun had just set, the sky was dark now and the lights around the park just turned on. Justin was glad that he told his parents he might be home late today, or else his phone would be blowing up right about now. Jamie was stiil looking at him, not that Justin was complaining, he could stare at her eyes all day if she'd let him.

Suddenly, a single tear went down her face. Then came another, and another. "Jamie?!" he said worriedly. Jamie blinked a few times, sending more tears down her face. "I'm- I'm sorry. I'm just-" she started laughing. She rubbed her eyes, but only more tears came down. "J-Jamie? Why are you apologizing? Why are you laughing? Why are you crying?" he asked all at once. "Justin... I-" she said, trying not to cry much more than she already did. She looked at him, and slowly opened her mouth.

"I love you too..."

Justin couldn't believe it. Jamie... Jamie liked him too? Not only that, but she loved him! "Wait, what?" he said, and he couldn't help but smile. He wanted it to be true, it had to be true. "I love you, I really do. I just always thought that you never felt the same..." Jamie said, looking away from him. Justin didn't like that. He wanted to look at her, now that he knew the truth.

"Why would you ever think that?"

"Because people always said you loved me, but you acted otherwise..."

"What do you mean?"

"They said I was your rival, and you hated me."

Justin remembered, the rumors that turned into horrible truths. He hated himself for believing them. "But, didn't you think otherwise when I said I loved you?" he asked. Jamie shook her head, still avoiding eye contact with Justin.

"I thought you were just teasing me, just playing with my feelings." she said, looking ashamed. "Jamie..." he took her hand, and used his other to guide Jamie's face so she was looking at him again. He was happy when she didn't try to stop him.

"I would never... I'm sorry you felt that way." he said, being serious and honest. "I never really hated you, I just said and acted like that because I hated loving someone who might never return the feelings." she stopped for a moment, trying to catch her breath from all the crying and sobbing.

"I wanted to leave those feelings so badly, because I loved you so much that it hurt." she cried. Those words sounded too familiar. Justin wiped a tear that was going down her face. "But you never gave up." he smiled. "I'm glad you never did." he continued, feeling a tear going down his face as well. Jamie smiled. "Me too..." she said.

"I wish I could've told you sooner though, so it wouldn't be this late." Jamie said, frowning a little. Justin kissed her hand and looked at her. Finally, he knew that Jamie loved him too. He couldn't believe it, it felt like a dream. He knew that Jamie had been so close to giving up, but just couldn't stop believing. Just like him. He smiled, and kissed her on the forehead.

"Love is never late..."
