‘I think he's on his own. The poor thing.’

Joanne pointed to the man sitting alone at the bar.

Mike glanced over. The man was in his early thirties. He was drinking a pint, reading a paperback.

‘Maybe he's waiting for someone.’

‘He looks lonely.’

Joanne went over.

Peter explained he was new to the area.

She invited him to join them.

They arranged to meet up at the couple’s home the following evening.

Having changed his mind Peter called Joanne to cancel.

‘Get well soon.’ Joanne dropped the knife. It clattered to the plastic sheeting on the basement floor.
