State Road 67 Bruceville, Indiana population 468

On a gently rising slope

Above the road, covered with thick green grass

Sits Auntie’s house.

And across the road

Beyond the railroad tracks

Is Grandpa’s house

Where the blackberries grow.

The summer sun is high

Showing all it’s stuff

With hearts beating faster

Knowing.

Grandpa is coming

Up that sloping hill

And in each hand he carries

Buckets full of blackberries.

Soon will be blackberries in pies

Blackberries on cereal

And hands full of

Blackberries crammed

Into eager mouths.

Blackberries

A time of rapture

Anticipation

And hearts beating faster.
