A Cruel Crown

It looks so innocent sitting there in all it’s glory. Gold, diamonds, delicate and yet so strong. The gold has no warmth to it, the jewels are shards of ice, yet no one can recognize it’s wickedness. How much blood has been spilt because of it and it’s influence?

Battles have been fought. Whole armies have been slaughtered in a frenzied carnage, their blood seeping into the earth. Merciless, they were in their quest to secure this crown. Men, boys, even women, forced to fight for their rulers who had found themselves bewitched by it, determined to take ownership. And yet none have succeeded.

Families have been torn apart. Brother has turned on brother, sister on sister, siblings on their parents, all maddened by the desire to claim this crown. There has been so much deception, back-stabbing; a lack of compassion to people once loved. All stirred up by the desire to grasp it in their own hands, to wear it upon their own heads. And to rule.

This crown that looks so innocent is cruelty incarnate. Malevolent! Don’t admire it, don’t even look, or you will find yourself consumed by the ambition to wear it yourself.
