Grace

Beautiful sounds, sinister words.
Do they believe, what lies within?
Of the flock and of the herd.
No place they had, no part, in sin.

In a point of light, graceful their tones
Amazed, so young their hearts
Melody's reach, to the very bones
Would make moot, the philosophy of Descartes.

But for my tears, I shed for these
For young minds corrupted so
However stirring their melodies
They know, yet certainly do not know.

I wonder, what otherwise would they sing?
If they had learned to ask instead
If devil's horn and angel's wing
Had not been, on wafers, to them, fed

Amazing grace, they had indeed
But imaginations so restrained
Would be unleashed by a single seed
of doubt - amazed, then unordained.
