MY OWNER …

It’s a hard life you know, being a dog,

My owner gets mad when I roll in a bog.

But my party piece, which will make her spook,

Is my life-long passion for blessed fox-poo.

Getting down and dirty, I roll about,

In a fervent endeavour to smother my coat.

I inhale the aroma with great satisfaction,

But she doesn’t quite share my enthusiasm.

She will shout obscenities in my ear,

And will wind down the windows as if in fear,

Of what, I can never quite figure out,

But all I know, it makes her shout.

“You filthy dog, you’ve done it again,

When will you learn, I can’t stand that smell.”

So I know I will just have to suffer my fate,

Of a shower and shampoo, which I really hate.

But at the end of the day, what I see in her eyes

Is that special something she cannot disguise.

You see, we have a connection, my owner and me,

We love each other, unconditionally.
