Everyone hates the waiting game. Waiting in line. Waiting for love. What if you were waiting for both?

INT. COPY ROOM - DAY

SUPERIMPOSE: Tuesday 2:12 P.M.

CHET sits at his "desk" slouched over, staring at the phone as if he is waiting for it to ring.

SYDNEY comes into the copy room, carrying a stack of papers. A line has formed in-front of the copier. VIRGINIA, CINDY & RYAN stand there patiently waiting their turn.

Virginia is next in line waiting for PHIL to finish up.

Ryan notices Sydney and turns to her.

ryan

(GEEKISHLY-PLAYFUL TO SIDNEY-IMITATING AN ECHO) Hello down there.

sydney

(NERVOUS-GIGGLES, ALSO IMITATES AN ECHO) How's the weather up there?

Chet, Cindy, Virginia and Phil stare at the both of them. Sydney and Ryan notices the stares and stop the playful flirtation.

RYAN

(TURNS AROUND TO SIDNEY) How's it goin?

SYDNEY

I'm good. How are you?

RYAN

Good good. I uh finally caught up on Stranger Things wow it got so...

SYDNEY

(COVERS HER EARS) DON'T spoil it. I haven't finished the last few episodes.

RYAN

Oh sorry. (IMITATES LIPS BEING SEALED)

cindy

(TO PHIL) How long does it take to copy a piece of paper Phil?

Phil

(PRESSING BUTTONS) This damn thing isn't working.

virginia

Maybe try selecting just one button instead of pressing all of them.

PHIL

L.O.L. Mrs. Pigglesworth. You don't think I tried that?

VIRGINIA

Who knows what you tried? Do you know even know what day it is?

PHIL

Yeah it's Mon-Fri day.

chet

What?

PHIL

Mon-Fri day.

CINDY

What the hell is that?

PHIL

It's short for Monday through Friday.

CINDY

Why?

PHIL

That way I don't have to remember what day it is.

VIRGINIA

What if it's the weekend?

Phil pauses and thinks for a moment.

Focus back on Ryan looking back at Sydney. Ryan motions with his finger in a circular motion that Phil is crazy

Phil notices.

PHIL

I am not crazy young man. You're all just oblivious.

TED comes baring out of his office. He pushes Phil off to the side.

ted

Move it.

CINDY

Hey!

SYDNEY

Hey!

RYAN

Whoa!

VIRGINIA

Yo!

PHIL

Hey I was doing something.

Sydney attempts to look closer.

TED

What's the matter with this thing?

PHIL

Told ya it wasn't just me.

Ted checks the paper tray.

TED

(TO PHIL) There's no paper in this copier Phil.

PHIL

Well how am I supposed to know how this space machine works?

Ted rips open a new package of printer paper and places it in the tray. Then he waits for it to start printing but it still does nothing.

TED

Oh come on you stupid space machine.

Focus back on Sydney.

SYDNEY

(TO RYAN WITH A BIG SMILE) You look really--nice today.

RYAN

Thank you. (OLD ENGLISH ACCENT) And may I just say you look lovely yourself.

Ryan and Sydney both giggle like children.

CINDY

What the hell is this, Downton Abbey?

TED

COME ON you foolish appliance.

Virginia tries to help Ted.

VIRGINIA

Move. (NOTICES NOTHING IS LIT UP, CHECKS THE PLUG) Ya know, it might work if it's ON.

Virginia holds up the cord to the copier. She plugs it in.

Everyone expresses relief.

CINDY

Thank God.

SYDNEY

'Bout time.

RYAN

Finally!

Ted's papers print. He retreats back to his office.

Phil goes back to trying to copy his stuff.

CINDY

(TO RYAN) You do look really cute today.

Ryan turns to Cindy and blushes. Cindy glares at Sydney briefly.

MONTAGE CUTS:

* Phil finishes up.

* Cindy finishes.

* Virginia finishes.

Ryan is just about finishing up. As he makes his way past Sydney..

RYAN

(AWKWARDLY-FLIRTATIOUS) I guess I'll see you later.

SYDNEY

(NERVOUSLY-FLIRTATIOUS) You know where to find me.

They both have a slightly subtle giggle in response to each other's replies.

RYAN

(BEAT) Actually I don't.

SYDNEY

Oh my office is just (POINTING TO THE MAIN OFFICE DOOR) through there.

Ryan exits still geekishly-smiling.

RYAN

Right. Well..bye.

SYDNEY

Bye.

Sydney is last to go. She places a single piece of paper in the tray, selects copy and just as she is about to proceed, a string of papers begin to print before she can.

SYDNEY

Oh you've got to be kidding me.

TED

(EATING AN APPLE) I printed 100 pages. Shouldn't take long.

CUT TO BLACK.
