Dumped

Well, I guess that’s it!

Came right out of the blue, totally unexpected – he’s dropped me!

What kind of a fool was I to listen to it all, to fall for all those lies? ‘I love you.’ Three words so easy to say and so very rarely meant.

It’s hard not to cry, not to throw back my head and howl at the sky. But I’ll not do it. I can’t give in.

Just one single teardrop that trickles its way down my cheek to drip straight onto his hastily scribbled ‘Goodbye’ note.

I watch as the ink begins to smear and swirl. It would almost be worth letting another tear fall, just for the effect it would have on those carefully written letters of his. But no, I’ll let my fingers tighten and squeeze the paper into a crushed and creased ball which I toss into the bin.

After all, that is just what he has done to me....thrown me away!

I don’t care!’ I tell myself. He’s nothing special, never was. I’m worth more, so much more.

He calls my name, is walking swiftly towards me. What should I do? Listen to lies?

I turn and walk away.
