The figure moved swiftly and noiselessly as if not wanting to be observed. Who could that be? Who could be lurking at the punching bag area at this time? But before I could think further about who it was, a massive blow was sent to my left jaw which caused me stumble back.

“Ouch!” I screamed. “Angelo, why did you hit me that hard?” I asked still wincing in pain.

“You lost concentration and in a fight, your opponent will take it as an opportunity to strike.” He said with a very serious tone.

“I’m sorry, I just thought I saw someone over at the punching bag section but it is no big deal” I said apologetically.

“I think that’s enough sparring for today, make sure you come early for work tomorrow” he said with a little smile on his face and left.

I got out of the ring and went to my locker to get my stuff but I felt someone staring at me, so I quickly turned around and saw there was no one. When I turned back to my locker to get my stuff, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I slowly turned around and I couldn’t believe I saw. There stood a tall man in his late thirties with dark brown hair and light blue eyes wearing a black tee, black trousers and a black coat.

“Hello Nora, long time no see” he said with a smirk on his face.

“Why are you here Mr. Claudio?” I said while trembling trying to hide the fear in my voice but failed miserably.

“You left town 6 months ago without a word. Why?” He said with a hint of anger in his voice.

“I had enough money so I left.” I snapped.

“What did you even need the money for?” he asked this time staring into my big brown eyes.

“Something” I muttered to myself but still loud enough for him to hear.

“Tell me now!” he yelled. I swear, I felt the gym shake.

“Last year, my ten-year-old sister was diagnosed with lung cancer, and the doctor said we needed to start chemotherapy immediately. But I didn’t have any money because my mum took all the money we saved and abandoned us few weeks before my little sister was diagnosed.” I said with my eyes on my feet as if it was the most fascinating thing in the world. He nodded in understanding.

“You know you never told me how you got to know about me.” He asked still looking intently at me.

“When, I quit school and started to find a part-time job. I saw a flyer in the gym I went to saying you needed a fighter to train under you and compete for you in the ‘Fighters League’. So I decided to give it a go since I would make lots of money if I win and I also knew a few moves. That is why immediately I won the cup I left. I had made enough money to take care of my sister.” I said. Before he could say anything I asked “Why are you even here?”

“Umm…. I need you to fight for me again, you were the best fighter in that town. I need you to return to Hopkins and compete again.”

He said not meeting my gaze. “That can’t be all. It’s been six months, why are you really here?” I said with my right hand on my hip and my right foot tapping the floor repeatedly.

“Ximena is back.” He said not meeting my gaze once again.

“What?! Why?!” I asked with a hint of fear in my voice.

“She wants revenge” he said with a serious tone this time.

My body began to shake violently, my knees became wobbly and my eyes became blurry with unshed tears. Then I thought to myself

“I don’t want to die.”
