The Same Language

The Same Language
We speak the same language so how can it be,
that I can’t understand you, and you sure can’t follow me.
The words get lost, get out of place, or perhaps they twist;
whatever is the reason, the meaning’s always missed.
If I make any agreement, then your argument you flip;
are you dead set on giving me communication slip.
I try to dig out the right words for what I want to say
but my inner dictionary has got lost and in my head they stay.
To talk is way beyond me, I can’t keep up with the chatter
but in the world-wide scale of things, does it really matter.
I know our language is the same, but our interpretation’s skewed,
confusion seems to follow every utterance that’s spewed.
I know the problem is with me, that all my words are wrong
but it wouldn’t be so hard if you just helped these things along.
Instead it brings amusement; ‘Hey, isn’t she so thick!’
so I’ll communicate by keyboard, and leave my tongue to stick.

Indeed, sometimes they're talking gibberish--talking past each other!
Everyone expresses themselves more clearly in different ways. I also find that I better communicate when I write things down - it gives me time to evaluate what I've written and adjust it so it perfectly communicates what I want to say. Sometimes what I say sounded differently in my head, or I don't accentuate the correct word to properly express my meaning, and once people misunderstand you, it's difficult getting them to either understand your actual meaning or to believe your explanation of what you actually meant. Writing is wonderful, unfortunately, we can't spend our lives reading off of cue cards! lol
You couldn't have expressed it better, Hully. Sometimes I feel like I am the one talking the "gibberish" too. Well done.
I saw posted on Facebook the other day... 'can you write better than you speak?'... and I had a light-bulb moment. Your poem perfectly defines this. I have quite severe hearing loss, so without aids, I can often say inappropriate things, which makes me feel incredibly stupid, that's why I enjoy the written word so much. Great stuff Hully, as ever!
Well, I just feel like I talk a different language, or at least say all the wrong things.....writing, well, at least there's a chance to change those words before you commit to them. So to that question you saw, I'd definitely say yes!
Thanks so much for reading, Sue.
I think we're on the same wave length lately :)))
Perfectly expressed Hully .
You're definitely not the only one Ms. hullabaloo. Nicely done.
