How I was Ensnared in Seminary

When I was eleven, a friend of mine, called Mauro, asked me if I  wanted to go in a summer camp run by friars, in Arenzano a Ligurian sea resort Ok I answered  so we went. First evening
not even an evening, just 5 p.m. a person started crying, I want my mom, I want my mom, I want my parents , I don’t want to stay here.. The person was of course my friend, the same evening
his parents came to rescue him, and I found myself all alone amid strangers. Same thing had happened e year before when we enrolled in the Boy Scout groups, but that’s another story. Actually I
remember very little about that fortnight , I guess we went to the beach every day, and in the evening some collective games were arranged . Each morning before having breakfast we had to attend
mass, but I didn’t find it strange, because the summer camp was run by friars, but one thing puzzled me. We attended mass in one chapel inside the building and there were , of course, some pews,
with some books stored. The instruction given to us were clear, for no reason  we could take them , because the books belonged to the seminarists. Seminarists who were they? Why we couldn’t
touch their books , but most important , where they were? Obviously just ask some friars who were in charge to look after us and clear some haze off my mind never crosses my brain  , it would
have been too simple, and once you managed to figure out the mystery what would you have been left with? Besides I had no knowledge of what a seminary was. So I kept my doubts for me.  The end
of camp arrived and on the last day , and I underline, the last day, one of the friars told me if you like we also eun a school here where you could do your seventh grade here with us. Well I
thought and after an half second I said ok fine with me. All my important decision used to take me half second to make my mind about them. Boh? Perhaps that’s the reason that ultimately most of
them to no say all of them  were wrong. My parents came to fetch me, and I told them about my decision, more o less I said I’m going to come here to do my seventh grade because they told me
they run a school and I'd like to attend it. Probably one of my longer speeches. I had ever had with my parents. So in October I became a seminarist, but still I didn’t know anything about the
seminary as an institution. We were 44 and used to sleep in two different dormitories, in the evening the friars encouragered us to read before going to sleep, I was happy because I was and still
am an avid reader  and I had with me a book I was reading, the title was “Blue Knights” on the cover there was a blond knight riding a white horse and with his cloack billowing. When the friar
in charge of looking after our dormitory saw my book , he wanted to see what it was about, he said , but is this an adventure novel ? Of course I replied I like them, he continued, but I think it
is not appropriate, why not I said , you told us is good for us to read before sleeping, Yes I know but we intended something like some Saint Life, Saint Life? But… ok… but now I can’t interrupted
I’m halfway… so he said ok you can finish it we’ll bend a bit the rules since Crusades are involved, but the next one you’ll have to choose something more appropiate. That was my first night as a
seminarist, still not knowing that a seminarist live in a building called seminary and still not knowing what the fate of a seminarist was or should be.
