Holding Back

Emotions

They swirl inside me

Anger,

Sadness,

Irritation,

Annoyance.

All there,

But hidden.

Not allowed to come out.

Hiding behind that bright smile

Covered up by fake happiness

Just to make everyone else

Smile just as bright.

All is good,

Forget the dangerous,

Dark,

Monster hidden

Behind that smile.

Covered from the eyes

All around

It's growing,

It's becoming harder to hide

The demon.

The smile has cracks,

It's not so happy any more.

They're starting to see glimpses

The cracks are growing,

Bigger,

Wider.

It's starting to break free.

Little by little

It will come crashing out

Not held back,

Not covered up

Not hidden.

But free,

For all to see,

To hear.

The eyes turn away

Guilt is everywhere,

a thin gas hanging in the air.

Relationships are broken,

Just like that smile.

Time to make a new one,

But one that can come

with real joy,

one that can fade away

and come again,

that is the smile you should where,

As a symbol of you happiness,

not a blanket to cover

how you really feel
