I remember the moment when I was told.

That I was going to be a father

by the time it turned cold.

A man In his mid twenties

no children of his own .

Never thought that it was possible .

But love's gift bestowed.

I remember the first time

I heard your heart beating.

It sounded like horses galloping.

Hooves striding and leaping.

I remember lying my head

on your mothers womb

whispering softly that daddy loved you.

I was so impatient

To hold you at last ,

but the entire nine months went by too fast.

Dilated to a 10

your arrival began.

Daddy was so tired

being awake for days on end.

I remember looking around the room

as if I were lost.

The doctor said " I can see him."look at all that hair ;

let me give him a Mohawk. "

Everyone laughed

but there was no one to blame.

Even your mother who was in

excruciating pain.

Finally we heard your first born cry .

you were lyed upon your mothers chest

wide awake on your side.

You two stared at each other for the longest time.

And daddy was grateful that you had arrived.

Now you are almost a year old .

Time goes faster than you think.

Your arrival sometimes seemed so slow

but looking back now.

It was only brief.
