Count is a title in European countries for a noble of varying status, but historically deemed to convey an approximate rank intermediate between the highest and lowest titles of nobility. The position was originally not hereditary. The title of Count was also often conferred by the monarch as an honorific title for special services rendered, without a feudal estate (countship, county) being attached, so it was merely a title, with or without a domain name attached to it.

Gerard was a count. Not any count. He was "The Count of Monte Cristo". And according to him, it was "The Best Job in the World". He was a very talented and versatile man. He had the ability to "Unhook the Stars". He was "Unfair Competition" for "The Man in the Iron Mask" (Danglars), "The Secret Agent" who was responsible for his life sentence in the Château d'If by drafting a letter informing the public prosecutor that Gerard was bearing a letter from Napoleon to the Bonapartist Committee in Paris.

"In the Beginning", "A Loving Father", the elder Dantès, was waiting for his son to come back aboard the merchant ship The Pharaoh. But "Under the Sun of Satan", his enemies, Fernando and Danglars, we plotting against him in "Marseille". Gerard was in love with a young girl named "Elisa", "The Woman Next Door", with whom he planned to get married. She was "The Last Woman" he saw before spending the next 14 years in jail.

When Gerard went to Paris to get revenge on his enemies, it was even more unexpected than "The Return of Martin Guerre". Nobody recognized him. Everybody thought he was new in town, even the "Inspector Blunder".

With the help of his "Green Card", it was a "Pure Formality" to enter the social circle of the aristocracy.

"The Envy of Gods" had pushed Fernando to marry the woman he loved, and Gerard wanted revenge. He had the "Choice of Arms" in "The City of Ghosts" (Paris). He chose the most powerful mantras known in the entire infinite for the awakening of the sacred fire: "KANDIL BANDIL "RRRrrrr!!!" And said "unbelievable" things to scare Mondego:

"Get Out Your Handkerchiefs". "At Night All Cats Are Crazy".

But "Rene the Cane", "Jean de Florette", "Cyrano de Bergerac" and "Colonel Chabert", all present at the social gathering, tried to stop him. But Gerard was unstoppable, he felt like "Asterix at the Olympic Games", invincible. You can't stop a man using a magic potion and the sacred fire. But "Vincent, François, Paul and the Others" interfered too. And it created so much confusion that Mondego managed to escape, shouting at Gerard before he left:

"Bye Bye Monkey".

That was of no use as he ended committing suicide. "This Sweet Sickness" called greed proved to be fatal to Fernando.

Finally, Gerard forgot about his revenge. He had found a "Valley of Love" and "United Passions" with Haydée, his young and beautiful slave, who asked him to "Let The Sunshine In".

"Forgiveness is a luxury. It should be a way of life."

That was his life lesson after so many years thinking he was the providence.

"When I am bored I drink ... I do not drink like a normal person. I can get through 12, 13, 14 bottles a day ... "Anyway, I'm not going to die, not yet. I've still got energy."

14 bottles a day after having spent 14 years in jail!? He's definitely not ready to die yet with such a diet.

When Gerard escaped the Château d'If, he was another man. He was no longer Edmond Dantès. He was Sinbad the Sailor, Abbé Busoni, Lord Wilmore and the Count of Monte Cristo of course. He was the man who robbed identity and never got caught.

"I'm curious about people. That's what I've always done since I've been a small boy. I'm curious about others."

To the point to be many people at the same time at some point in his life. Gerard learned all the tricks at an early age.

"I fit an image which the French like ... Someone who is a rebel, who shakes things up, and who is sometimes drunk."

Handing back his French passport to get Russian citizenship with an Executive Order signed by the Russian president himself is indeed a rebellious behavior that shake thing up. I don't think the French liked it too much. They probably think he was drunk when he did it.

"A lot of talent is what others make of you."

Gerard has been nominated for the Best Actor in a Leading Role César 17 times. But it was others, not him.

"So, goodnight Gerard. Don't miss "The Last Metro"! Or you'll never get home,... in France. You are too French to be Russian!"
