The Roar

I saw them big as life

when they were on the TV;

some kind of feline animals

but not quite the same as me.

I went up to my Mommy,

she said, sure, I would still grow,

but that wasn’t quite the answer

to what I want to know.

These lions, they are fearless,

their paws as big as me,

and when they gave that growl

it just made me want to flee.

I don’t want to admit it,

for it’s sure to make them laugh;

I’m heading off to practice,

I’ll scamper up the path.

I see the perfect victim,

one that’s nice and small,

this tiny little flower,

well, it makes me feel quite tall.

I’m stealthy as I near it,

low to the ground I keep

and then when I am near enough

I take a sudden leap.

And then I let it have it,

my most ferocious roar;

it really sounds quite scary

so I run back through the door.

I’m glad that no one noticed

for I’m listening right now

to the people sitting talking

of that high-pitched, sweet meow.
