In a Rose

I can see but a rose

But I can see feelings here and there;

I can see a woman’s pose

Glazed erect with a sharp glare

I can see ugly beauty

In the blooming petal that will then wane…

I can sense jealousy eye me with a sinister stare

Put upon the sharp ends

But I can sense grace

Dancing in crimson

And in the arch of the bowing leaves…

And in the bushes yonder

I can see the phantom of death

I look with a sense of wonder

I see souls hidden in Death’s icy breath…
