Shutter Shock

*Click* and then a flash. In the blink of an eye, the camera snaps its prey,

A dancing tree swaying in the breeze on a not so sunny day.

*Click* and then a flash. Before it could fly away, I caught a picture of a bird.

I couldn’t remember, if that was my second or my third, anyway it doesn’t matter.

The freezing wind began to pinch my nose, and then the rain came down like an out-of-control fire hose. What the hell is going on? What was this fear shaking in my toes? The sky turned black, as if the sun would never come back.

A flash and then a *Crack*

Whatever this bowling ball of terror was, a storm had just rolled in. Then a frickin’ tornado appeared, did the damn apocalypse begin?

Seriously, what is happening?

Also, how did I get in this field?

Why am I not wearing pants?

Wait a minute. Is that Cheryl? The girl I tried asking to the winter dance?

And the entire football team, pointing and laughing at me,

“That’s the kid with no pants and no chance to go the dance with Cheryl,”

who in fact would rather go out with Troy, the boy toy who is actually gay for his best friend Roy.

But you didn’t hear that from me.

Let’s not forget to mention,

That I am somehow now sitting in detention, for the supposed spit wad that I shot at Dr. Rod in class, when it was really that asshole Todd who can’t seem to pass, or tie his shoes, but is living on the edge like he has nothing to lose.

Now it is appearing to me that not everything is what it seems.

These events are too crazy, too surreal and a bit too hazy

to not be part of my dreams.

Or I could be in hell.

Who could tell?

Oh well, the raptors are coming for me now.

No time to run, no time to shout.

I think there is only one way out.

Though I do have some doubt, that pinching myself will wake me up from this nightmare.

Better go the extra mile, and yank on my hair.

Non-sexually, if that was not clear.

No time for pleasure while the present danger is drawing near.

And just like that I jolted out of bed.

My eyes wide, falling off the side, and hitting my head.

I am back in the real world. Or so I hope.

There is a tapping on my window. What could it be?

Just a tiny bird, a chirpy fellow, staring right at me.

Before it could fly away,

*Click* and then a flash. Another picture of another bird. Now this one has to be my third.

Fin.
