CONFUSED

I find it hard to keep pace with change,

This world, I now find rather strange.

When I was young, girls and boys

Played with different sets of toys.

Girls were drawn to dolls and prams,

Of guns and soldiers, boys were fans.

But now there is a lot of noise,

Gender is fluid, anything goes.

We are human beings, with free spirits,

Male of female? There are no limits.

We are now in control of our destiny,

We can be whatever we yearn to be,

Without judgement or discrimination,

Until we arrive at the right destination.

So what happened to the stiff upper lip?

We now test the water… we take a dip.

The norms I grew up with no longer apply,

To feeling confused, I cannot deny.

But live and let live, I will make my mantra,

To be or not to be… Anthony or Cleopatra?

And before you all rush to admonish my views,

My birthday I did not get to choose.

I am a product of my time,

Just trying to make sense of the current clime.

Life is precious, regardless of gender

Which it seems has been put through the blender.

But we are all human beings at the end of the day,

Who deserve fulfilment along life’s way.

Life’s path is not written in black or white,

We are who we are, a basic right.
