Wish You Weren't Here!

I read comments on political sites in which the author screams about "putting America first, and advocates a return to the days when America minded it's own business, and other nations minded theirs. That all sounds great, except for the fact those days are a longing for a bygone age. In modern times, economies are dependent on other economies. If one nation's economy has a bad stretch, we all feel it, slightly or deeply. Our glorious comrade advocates 'building a wall', which is just wishful thinking. I know it's supposed to be an answer for keeping certain immigrants out, but you're dreaming if you think that's a practical idea, it's the American version of The Maginot Line the French built to keep Germany from invading--and it turned out to only be a small speed bump on the road to Paris, resulting in the panicked mass-evacuation from Dunkirk.

Isolationism ended as a reality with the First World War. While it SOUNDS good, in reality, it won't work. Today's world, where we can talk instantly to someone anywhere around the globe as long as they have an internet connection, we're dependent on other nations. We're too dependent to say we're going the 'turtle' route, and pulling our head into our shell. No, I'm afraid, for better or worse, we'd better learn how to play well with others. Our president still subscribes to the isolationist view point, and has rapidly offended the very countries we're going to need help from, and I would argue, need now. I see so many complains about 'respect America', But respect is earned, not just given, and we'll lose all respect if he keeps acting like the belligerent drunk you see, and are afraid even to walk by his table, at your local tavern.
