Each line begins with the following letter of the alphabet.

Alphabet Christmas.

Awaken in the morning,

Breakfast quickly eaten;

Cereal poured in a bowl,

Drinks, no need to sweeten.

Excitement now is bubbling,

For finding what you’ve got;

Gifts all wrapped up neatly,

Happy, yeah, a lot!

Instantly they are pounced on,

Jumping now for joy;

Knitted scarf and sweater and

Look, you’ve got that toy!

Merry Christmas,” you do shout,

Nice and clear and loud;

Overcome with gratitude --

Pleasure is allowed!

Quickly, for the doorbell rings,

Run to let them in;

Surrounded by your family,

Trying not to grin.

Uncles, aunts and cousins, too,

Very rarely seen,

Welcome and enjoying it --

Xmas, like a dream.

You know it’s nearly over but those tunes play on and on,

Zinging round and round your head until you sing along.

Well done, I'd have struggled if I'd set this as a task for myself although I hate it when people use xmas as a word rather than a space saver. I should probably try get in the spirit.

Well, I did try to think of a way to use 'xylophone', Lucas, but I just couldn't come up with a line!

Thanks for reading!

Totally fictitious, Mike, but I'm trying. Thanks for reading.

Nicely done, Hully! It takes true skill to create something so seamlessly put together that flows perfectly and paints a complete, beautiful picture. You are a master of your talent!
It's certainly the ideal Christmas, one I think we all hope to enjoy. But it's rarely how it works out. It's just not the holidays if there isn't one or two hiccups, and I'm not sure it's better that way. Perfection is overrated, and the memories families and friends talk about for years to come are never the ones where everything went off without a hitch; those are always footnotes.
Beautiful work!

Thanks, Jeff. This was one that had a lot of rewrites and it didn't quite end up as I planned....I thought working through the alphabet would be easier than it proved to be.

Wow, well done Hullly, you nailed it! No mean feat, but you made it sound so easy and seamless. I salute you, brilliant job!

This is such a great poem! Incorporating the alphabet and rhyme within a poem can be hard tasks on their own, but together?
This is very creative and full of Christmas spirit:)

Well, I definitely owe you for the inspiration, Doc. I had a lot of rewriting to do to get it to fit, and yep, those last three lines are the worst.

Excellent, Hully! Cleverly constructed yet flowing so naturally that one might even not notice the alphabetizing. Fantastic!

I have to thank Dr. Acula for the inspiration for this, Oleg. I did quite enjoy the challenge, and I'm thinking about writing a New Year one.....if I can make it work!

Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to comment!

Thanks, John. Like I said in reply to Oleg, I'm thinking of having a go at writing one for the New Year, if I can get it to work.
