Come with me,” said Freda to her twin brother Chase,

Look at what I’ve found for us, hanging round the place.”

There’s pieces that do dangle down, tempting to our paws,

but we need to watch for damage that can be made just by claws.”

The two cats tire of that game for those bits are out of reach,

but Freda has another thing to go ahead and teach.

If we sit here patiently, and keep our eyes upon that door,

soon it will pop open, but I don’t know what it’s for;

This little bird will dash outside, give a loud cuckoo,

a perfect opportunity for both me and you.”

The cats take up position, getting comfy on that chair,

it cannot be so very long ‘fore entertainment’s there.

It’s hard to keep on waiting while staying quite awake,

but Freda and her brother Chase will do what it will take.

And then there is a whirring noise, the door it opens wide

and then a little bird appears from somewhere deep inside.

Freda goes in to a crouch, Chase prepares to pounce,

the two launch off together in a perfect dual bounce;

the bird has fled inside the house, it’s back behind the door,

cats, they find themselves standing on the floor.

Chase, he gives his head a shake, Freda gives a hiss,

it’s hard to understand quite how the both of them did miss.

But back upon the chair once more, the cats will wait it out;

there’s less than sixty minutes left before that bird will sprout

out in it's noisey way, to give another smart attempt,

and if they do just miss again, a catch can just be dreamt.

I came across the picture this afternoon and it got me thinking what my cats might make of a cuckoo clock. Thanks for reading, Sue.

I don't think it would take long for them to get bored with it, but it could provide a bit of novelty entertainment. Thanks for reading, Tom, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
