“Little Angel”

He looked over

at her

he could see

the pain

she was trying

to hide

from him

as she used

the back of

her hand

to brush away

her matted hair

and a slight

trickle of blood

from her brow,

he already knew

what she was

just finding out

that her boyfriend

was a pig

that sang

in a band

and treated her

like shit,

but he knew

she loved him

she was always

making excuses

for him

that he didn’t

bother to do

or care enough

about

to make

for himself,

she felt the

stickiness

on the back

of her hand

looking down

she noticed the

still wet

blood

starting to dry

there,

she meant to

surprise her

boyfriend

meet him

backstage

at an out of

town gig

only to walk

in

on him

and some groupie

whore

who was working

him

like she was

gripping a

fireplug

with her lips

those bastards

just laughed

as she started

screaming

crying and

swinging her

fists,

she licks the

back of her

hand

as if unsure

that the

stickiness

was really blood,

he crouches

next to her

her clothes

make-up

and hair

all crumpled

and smeared

looking like a

ragdoll

tossed away

after playtime

was over,

but to him

he has never

seen her

looking more

beautiful

than right

now

he leans in

close

to her

stretches his

tee-shirt

up to her

eyes

and gently

wipes away

her tears

as he whispers

to her

“dry your eyes”

“and we’ll leave”

“little angel”

she has to

work

to give him

a faint smile

he is completely

transfixed

by her

as her long

legs

struggle to

support her

weight

as she tries

to stand

on her own

her red hair

sticking to the

wound

on her brow

causing her

hair to

cover

her left eye,

once she gains

her balance

she stands

before him

with a look

that is part

fragile,

unbreakable

and sexy

all at the

same time

he wants to

tell her

he loves her

but he knows

its not what

she wants to

hear

instead

he holds out

his hand

to her

and says

“let’s head home”

“little angel”

“he isn’t loving you”

“anymore”

he puts his

arm

around her waist

pulls her closer

as he leads

her

to the car

his own feelings

wildly confused

he is honestly

hurting

from watching

all the pain

and abuse

she has suffered

through tonight

wishing he could

endure the pain

instead of her,

but he’s not

numb

to the effects

she’s having on

him either

the warmth of

her body

as it rides

against his

as they walk,

his right hand

softly gliding

up and down

the curve

of her waist

as he guides

her

on the path

to their car

and the sweet

smell

of her sweat

and perfume

mixed in with

her raw

emotions

that he can’t

help but notice

with every breath

he takes in,

he thinks about

kissing her

on her

tear stained cheek

but he knows

that’s what he

wants

not what she

needs

so he fights

off

the urge,

she glances over

her shoulder

for the third

time

checking to see

if her boyfriend

is running after

her

coming to beg

her

for forgiveness

but he’s not

why does she

always fall for

such losers,

she looks over

at him

as she starts

to notice

the multiple

points

of contact

her body

has with his

she was lucky

tonight

having him here

to pick-up

the pieces

of her heart

but he’s

not for her

he never will

be

and she’s sorry

for that,

she pulls him

closer

pressing the

weight

of her body

against his

a sort of

thank-you

to him

her way of

showing him

she cares,

“just don’t”

“kiss me”

“you fool”

“please”

“not tonight”

she says

to him

as she rests

her head

against

his shoulder

“ok little angel”

“ok”…
