Knife Throwing

I let down my guard, didn’t stay tense,

a momentary relapse -- me being dense;

for there you are waiting, a big stack of knives,

ready to throw, to damage some lives.

These knives are not metal but made out of words,

you’ve made them so sharp, when thrown and when heard.

Like daggers, they’re causing such intenseness of pain,

but you have so many to just toss again.

My confidence bleeds out, I’ll hit the floor;

I give you fair warning – I can’t take much more.

Slivers and slices, the slashes and stabs,

targeting my heart and mind, forcefully grabs

to squeeze out all feeling, just agony left.

Leave me to rot now, and don’t feel bereft.

If these words you are meaning, sounds like you do;

I can only conclude that I have simply failed you.
