One of my fondest memories is that of a young boy with dimples. He was one of my first friends; who just happened to be a boy. We were children but shared a recognition of one another. That special time when words are honest and feelings sincere.

I moved away and thought of him over the years with a smile. The other day a stranger stopped me and called my name. He asked if I was the girl he recalled from his childhood. I said “yes” and we once again shared that familiar smile with one another. Our faces a bit aged  by the unexpected sadness we had endured. For a moment we remembered who we were before the obstacles of life changed us.
